So I bugger off for a week and it turns into a big week of sporting news. Hooper and Graham People start complaining about the lack of a activity on the Norwich City front then suddenly there are two £5mill bids for Hooper and Graham. To be honest I wouldn't mind if no players come in, just one of Hooper and Graham comes in or both do. I do feel we need an additional striker but it won't be a disaster if no one comes in. We're in 12th at the moment so I see no reason why we couldn't maintain that position with the same team. It's also a shame about what Lennon has said regarding the bid given our new found friendship with Celtic but its a common tactic in the transfer window saying 'we want more money.' I was also worried with the Graham bid that the media would see this as a sign that Swansea are now a level above Norwich. But to be honest, **** the media (I'm still waiting on Ronaldinho's transfer to Chelsea that the Sun reported on about 5 or 6 years a go). Also, it's become apparent that Graham wants to move away from Swansea which would suggest we are still on a level playing field. Armstrong Not much to say on this but I feel that Lance Armstrong held a lot back in that interview. TheTelegraph is also suggesting that he's still lying - taking into account Usada and Wada's side of the story. Also, this can't be seen simply as a 'coming clean' interview. I wonder how much Armstrong got paid for this interview. However, I do still have respect for him because of his fight against a serious illness ad the fundraising/donations he's been involved in Adkins What an utterly stupid decision! He has the best win/draw/loss record of any Southampton and lead Southampton to successive promotions. Something only matched in recent times by Man City and Norwich. How he became Southampton manager is also interesting. Following a modest playing career as a 'keeper he became player/manager of Bangor followed by physio at Scunthorpe eventually becoming caretaker manager and then permenant manager which got him the job at Southampton. The decision to sack him is on the level of stupidity of Newcastle sacking Hughton (although I'm not complaining as he may have never become Norwich manager), a decision that Newcastle fans still dislike despite their success last season. Even QPR have had more sense regarding g managers. I feel Adkins will have no problem getting another job. He will be very in demand. But what astonished me was that the new manager in his press conference said he has been researching the players for weeks! This is incredibly insulting to Adkins. They are not in a disastrous position and they're doing much better than they were in November. This is their first season back in the Premier League, they're expected to struggle! I've never heard of this new manager, we will have to wait and see what happens. His record in management doesn't look brilliant and he's never managed in England so we will have to wait and see what happens! I'm only posting because of the news! After today I'm still not going to post for a few weeks unless there is more big news. Was meant to have a doctors appointment yesterday but that's now been delayed because of the snow! Fun times!
Good to see you post again wonky. Hope the health is stable. Come back and visit when you're ready mate. All the best
Thanks! Just for today because of the burst of news and delays in my doctor appointments! Bloody snow! Key is to be patient! Also very drugged up!
On the Armstrong point, I have no sympathy for him whatsoever but it is my understanding he wasn't paid at all for the interview. Not so newsworthy, but a special mention for Angel Rangel for giving out food to homeless shelters in Swansea too!
I'm not ruling it out just not for a figure as low as £5m. He's proved himself both in the Champions League and Europa League that he can perform and score at that level so is worth more than that. I would expect £6.5m - £7m IF he goes.
Would rather have Hooper than DG an unlike you I feel we NEED a striker. Armstrong..hardly done anything wrong just evening the playing field. They were all on all the PEDs under the sun so people need to stop being so naive Southampton..could have put a nail in their own coffin
I'm not being naïve. He did do something wrong. Performance enhancing drugs are illegal and morally wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Also just read that Armstrong has previously successfully sued people for accusing him of doping. Now that he has confessed to doping I'm sure there will be a lot of people suing him back!
This is the bit that bothers me the most about Armstrong. OK the majority of the cyclists were on something and he 'leveled the playing field'. However, he didn't just lie and deny it, he launched lawsuits, proclaimed his absolute innocence, destroyed other peoples lives. He was a hero for many, and totally betrayed the public who followed his every word. I thought the interview lacked integrity or genuine remorse. The fund raising and charity stuff sounds better than it actually is, as well. Armstrong gets more credit than is deserved, when you look into what Livestrong actually do.
I don't quite know how the USA tort system works. They award punitive damages over there so the claimant would would receive money that would but them back into the position they would have been had the incident not happened. But there's also a fee on top to act as a deterrent. This would have been incredibly damaging to the families of the whistleblowers who were telling the TRUTH. Morals and justice would say they deserve their money back along with any punitive damages but the law may say different. That's something I haven't yet mentioned on here and probably won't do but thanks anyway!
Hi Mr Wonkey .. I have had Non Hodgkins Lymphoma since June 2008. Second time in remission at present ... Just hoping your fine ok.... All the best always ...
Wow good luck with that! I have a few illnesses that are not quite as severe but are chronic. I have a kidney disease that is slowly eating away at itself, as well as a few leg and foot problems (hence the name, I literally am wonky)! I was also born with a hydrocephalus on the brain which has caused no problems until the last 8 or 9 months. Interesting second half of interview with Armstrong Now that he's confessed to doping he maybe could be allowed back into competitive sport after 8 years but does he deserve to? I don't think so. After the doping, the lying, the bullying and the court cases I feel the lifetime ban should be kept in place.
Hope you get better wonky Also, unfortunately, I think Swansea are a level above us now. IMO they are an established mid table team where as we are relegation candidates. I don't think you'd get nearly as many takers on Swansea going down as you would us.
