I was hugely disappointed with Traore today. I thought he can do the job as a left winger but obviously not. maybe next game Hoilett will get some time but he must understand that he must defend
Tactically the way Harry sets the team up is no different to what Sparky did. Harry has just got them putting more effort in. When you play like this your always going to surrender the vast majority of possession. It's not pretty to watch. A bit like when Hughes came in last season really. If it carries on I can see me falling a kip v City. I very nearly did v Spurs.
I think we're forgetting that when Faurlin did play this season, he was pony (Spurs away aside). Doesn't that count for anything?
Let's hope M'Vila and one or two other quality players join in the next week or so, to boost our chances of keeping the ball and our place in the prem. Wouldn't worry too much about the underperformance in the second half. That was always gonna happen at West Ham. Big Sam's fashioned a typical Big Sam type team. Strong, fluid and very mobile. We did well to keep them at bay for so long and to come away with a point. Shame our main rivals are all so capable atm. Depressing even, from our point of view.

This thread is absolutely spot on about the biggest weakness that remains to be tackled in the post Hughes era but wrong to focus the blame on SD. In a midfield that could potentially include the stellar passing talents of Granero and Faurlin the reason why Derry has started the last few games is that they were totally ineffectual earlier in the season and were constantly being caught in possession by teams that close you down early. I could be wrong but didn't both these two play against West Ham when they totally out muscled us us at home back in October? HR has quickly sussed that with the fitness levels in the PL that allows the opposition to close you down for 90 minutes we can't afford the luxury of lightweights like that.
exactly nines. faurlin and granero have been very poor for the most part. derry has played well bar 1 or 2 games this season (today being one of them).
Against WHU it was more to do with them having 3 in CM against our 2, any pair would have been overrun but Hughes refused to do anything about it.
That's actually a fair point mate. If we play Granero and Faurlin together they need an 'enforcer' with them. I think we did bring one on ( Diakite for the ineffectual Park? ) v the Hammers at home but he got himself sent off.
I think we'd have done better today with Granero or Ale if Granero is injured, but instead of Mackie, so we'd have had Derry (good defensively), M'bia (powr and speed), and Ale in midfield, with SWP switching wings, Adel and Remy further forward. It could have been 4 5 1 or 4 3 3, but Ale should have given us more ball holding ability than either Mackie or SWP provide.Playing them both seemed a bit too much of the same today.
That's not a bad call Oslo. In fact I think we missed a trick today. We should of played DJ at the expense of Mackie or SWP. If we had hit the ball into the channels DJ would have worked them all day long. Or even just for the second half. West Ham were far too comfortable for the last 45 mins. They didn't have to worry about negating any QPR threat. DJ would have been a good outlet to relieve the pressure and give us a threat going forward. He would of stretched their defence and give us a good option for a second. Faurlin has the ability to pick him out.
