You prove my point, you're being ridiculous. Do you think he's a recluse who speaks and consults with no one?

If you simplify it to the level you have then you can say there's no difference between any managers...

Well he certainly hasn't consulted anyone with a footballing brain. Do you really think that someone who understands football would sack a manager like Nigel Adkins in our position?

Can we move this discussion into another thread?, isn't like there aren't any on the subject.

In statistical terms managers have very little effect on a teams overall performance

You've been very negative for ages. I can remember this but I won't go on an obsessive hunt for proof. Get with it though and stop going on about 'we will never' etc. The key with us will be if we are capable of geting half (or more) of our first team to a European top level standard from our academy. If we can't then you are right we cannot compete financially but it isn't impossible.

Say 'it is very unlikely'. That is understandable. Saying 'Southampton will never' is defeatist and is precisely the way Saints fans have always felt.

If the team had gotten relegated, I think many of us would have been okay with it. And we would have advocated keeping Adkins on despite that because we like him for the long term.

Why would it be different with Pochettino? Maybe Cortese likes Pochettino much more for the long-term and therefore is willing to take an increased chance of relegation in the short term to achieve those long term goals.

TBF, I am not sure if Cortese is right about Pochettino, nor am I sure if this was really well-thought out move for the long-term instead of just impatience and unrealistic expectations for the present team. But the notion of not letting your present relegation situation stand in the way of the bigger long-term picture is perfectly defensible to me.

I know I keep saying this, but Cortese deserves some slack as far as questioning the football side of the decision. Pardew was not a bad hire, and Adkins was a fantastic hire so he has a track record of hiring good managers. The team has gone from L1 to Premier League and NC deserves some credit for that just as Adkins does. Pochettino from what we know of him appears to fit perfectly into Cortese's vision, which he has shared with the fans.

I think we all like Adkins and we feel like this isn't the way you should treat people and some of us don't like the club to be run this way. But that's different from questioning the strategy.

No, you don't support a football club, you support Nicola Cortese PLC.

As sad as i am to see Nigel go, this is an exciting time to have a more well known manager who has links all over the place. Looking forward to seeing how it all pans out

Pochettino does seem like a good manager, and simiar to Adkins in the way that they've both managed successfully on low budgets, but I think that the morale of the team may be slightly hindered and there could be a surprise exit. On top of this the timing was extremely bizarre-if Adkins was sacked after the WBA game then fair enough, but now? Also, Adkins may have had some transfer targets in mind (which I hope Cortese took note of and that MP has some targets of his own, maybe some Espanyol players?) Due to this I think that if MP keeps us up then he's done a great job!

One final note is that I've heard that MP is quite defensive and doesn't let his team ship too many goals, maybe this was Cortese's reason for approaching him? This may have been before our defence improved, and also would explain how he was appointed straight away after Adkins was sacked.

Managers get sacked all the time, some unfairly...we are not hated. The media is not everyone.
