He knew it would be unpopular, but he obviously thinks that this is the right decision. He may be wrong, but it won't be an arbitrary decision. The man at the top answers to the owners...he won't have done this without thought.

The main thing I picked out from that video was how it has to be Boruc with the scarf that stands out!

Yes, I think there is a large element of truth in that. Nigel will go on to prove himself, just not with Saints. How many people had heard of Alex Ferguson, even though he had been an international for Scotland..? Low profile man who eventually, by successful efforts, went from St Mirren via Aberdeen to ManU, with a little stand-in job for Scotland in there as well. Nigel will eventually make it to the top, I have no doubt. But Saints are in too big a hurry themselves to wait.

Call me really, really fickle and shallow.......but is anyone else now feeling quite excited about what's going to transpire with the new boss?

    QUOTE=Southampton's 7&11;4118553]It's a weird feeling to hate the club I support.[/QUOTE]

Then I suggest you give yourself a hug and stop hating, it's bad for you and not doing us any favours with all this unwarranted negativity, man up, no one has died, we are still alive and very much in the mood for kicking, could be slightly worse, ask Lampras.<hug>[

The difference there is that United were already a high-profile club. The name United attracts players in a way that the name Southampton doesn't, so it makes more of a difference to us to have a known and respected manager.

The same applies to Liverpool with Brendan Rodgers. Ironically he probably wouldn't be considered high-profile enough by Cortese, but at Liverpool it doesn't matter. The club attracts players so the manager doesn't have to.

We should be excited, under any other circumstances he'd be hailed as a good appointment. It's only Adkins leaving that puts a downer on it.

The video has eased my concerns about the language barrier. By the looks of it he seems to be communicating well. The

he said he could speak a bit but didn't want to be embarassed in front of the media. He understands more than he can speak.

    Yeah I agree.

I'm excited to see how he does, and will put my faith in the club and this new guy 100%.

The "can't speak a word of English" rumour was passed around to make it seem worse than it was. By no means is he fluent, of course.

Good point. Yes, there is a definite difference. At this moment I'm racking my brains trying to think of a similar club elsewhere that has managed to successfully raise its profile by bringing in a higher profile manager. Poor example, but Fulham..? :emoticon-0112-wonde

I'm pretty sure everyone in Europe who has ever been to school is capable of some basic level of communication in English.

On another positive note...I suppose it could be argued that it could be a blessing for some of the players as they may well impress the new man. Perhaps not even given a chance under our Nigel....who knows. The Italians tend to be very slow in their build up the same as the Argies.......That style will not work here in England....I just hope he realises that........Cortese what have you done?

Well, I had five years of French education, and I'm fairly confident he speaks better English than I do French.

But then, I am limited to "Je m'appelle Dan"

The more I think about it the more the decision is understood and I can start to see where Cortese has come from on this. I still don't agree with it but he has made a similar call in the past and got it right.

Reading through all the posts today, it would seem that as a group we are thinking along the same lines. A big thanks to Nigel for all the great work he's done and a sense of anticipation of what is to come.

    Bring it on!

Just one more thing. Can people stop saying "Our beloved Nigel" he was a great manager for us but the guy hasn't died.
