Your missing the point. There are definitely worse teams than you, who will most likely go down. Under Adkins, although not the best start to a prem return, you were starting to gel, picking up points where you would not expect, a team with a good squad who the respect and understand their manager and coaching staff and who understand what is required of them would go on to do well in my book.

I understand that cortese has big plans........but if this does not work, and this new guy takes you out of the prem, surely Cortese would resign?

I am not hear to wum, I am enjoying good debate with like minded footie fans, and as a footie fan, i dont see this as a good appointment.

On another note.......I wonder if Adkins fancies doing a "Arry" and coming over to the blue side.....?

Football is a funny old fish isn't it? I can't think in any walk of life of another example of where basically you're supporting (and paying for) a business where such emotions are involved.

Think of it this way. It's a bit like loving a brand like Apple. The chairman and owner of Apple for whatever reasons has decided to put a new CEO in place. Doesn't seem so critically important to my life in those terms.

It's the peculiarity of this sport that we get so emotionally involved. As many have said, Cortese has not made a bad (major) call yet, and is and has always been a ruthless bugger. This has clearly been some time in the making, but let's pull ourselves up and get behind MP.

PS - I don't like the Pinocchio nickname. Think it's a bit of a disrespectful way to start. Again though, just my opinion.

yeah, I know. it is a business decision and a brave one at that.

it's just a shame that these days a few words are missing from the world of football. loyalty, reward and respect are a few.

that's how it is these days, not unique to Southampton. it seems we need to be a global product, nothing wrong with that. let's just not forget our roots and its the local support that has kept the club going for 127 years.

Ian I agree with some of this but the bottom line is that NC thinks you are wrong and the new man will take Saints to the next level. I hope he is right. Some very good judges think Poch has something special. Time will tell but NC must be sure we can stay up or he would not have made the decision.

I think we would have stayed up with Nigel and will stay up with Poch. He has the same difficult batch of games coming up as NA had at the beginning...so that should be interesting.

The reason why Nigel Adkins had relatively limited success (i.e. not getting above Championship level) with Scunthorpe is because he didn't have a Cortese backed by Liebherr money behind him. That, I'm afraid is how the game works nowadays, you can't have one without the other.

I really, really hope you're right because all other things aside, replacing a respected manager now is one hell of a gamble.

Nor did appointing him in the first place. Wiggles was an unmitigated disaster.

Sacking him earlier might have helped.

Don't forget the money that has been invested in this club and by a man not here to enjoy it. We want money spent on players, so it is naive to think that it is not a business. Cortese stuck with Nigel after the terrible start...he probably thinks he was loyal there. People who know football probably think Nigel over achieved with the players we have...a mixture of good and decent players, but NC feels differently and he is the one actually responsible to the owners.

Nigel wanted to see the job through and is probably hurting like hell as he will miss the job and the people at the club, but he will dust himself off. He will have got a good pay off which will give him options. He can be proud of his time here.

Everybody had the same reaction when pardew was sacked and mr nobody adkins was appointed. Move on and get on with it.Adkins was a good league one, championship manager but he doesnt cut it in the premiership hence the new manager.

Anyone remember the way Nigel spoke after the Coventry game? He knew the plan back then I think, and as much as I think Nigel has been hard done by,and done a great job here I have to now give my backing to to new man MP.
But I will follow Nigel's results whichever lucky club he ends up at.

He'd have his work cut out!

I don't see us getting relegated now. The players are the ones who have improved, they will still be confident and aware of what they can do, and need to do, and they're all still there (and we might have a couple of better ones soon).

If we are, then we'll deal with it then. I don't see Cortese resigning though.

mate, I am not disagreeing about football being a business. I just don't agree with the (end of)
for the supporter the business element is just one factor. what the supporter wants is to be proud of their team, competing, playing attractive football that warrants a 40:00 entrance fee and ideally at the upper end of the league. all of which we were achieving. I don't care if we attract another 50 fans in Malaysia this season.

yes there is room for improvement, top end of league, Europe etc but we have got to remember where we have been recently

So I am right in thinking we hired one?..... What a waste of £100,000 a year that'll be.

We were never going to get any sympathy out of Trixter, he's hated Adkins all along - or at least ever since Nigel spent 12 months denying West Ham automatic promotion. He probably smiled at yesterday's news.

But he's still got a cheek coming onto OUR board and complaining about OUR posts. Last time I checked, no-one was forcing him to come on here.

I was going to make a comment almost identical to this till i read this one. Maybe a common reason for some players not wanting to come to us was not having heard of the manager.

I was shocked by the decision but boycotting matches and chanting while the game is being played is simply ensuring out downfall. It's pointless and can only have a negative effect on the team.

don't agree. he can cut it in the premier league and recent results proved that. we are 15th and recently outplayed arsenal. even going back further it's only an individual player mistake that has cost us more points. we gave a good account at man city, played as well as man utd and our performances could easily have gained us another 8 points if it wasn't for the scrappy deflection, slip up
