http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/carlis...rlisle-utd-striker-1.836732?referrerPath=home I know you want to keep hold of him, hes had a good season. But at Carlisle he was not Premiership quality. Are you scared you lose him? He seems quite fond of your club!
We don't want to lose him, but we're realistic. For the club it'll be beneficial financially, and for DG it will be an excellent career move. He is well respected at Watford, and in the perfect world we'd keep hold of him, but needs must, in many ways. Sad but true. But yes, he certainly seems very happy at Watford, but having the season he's had, you can see why!
I may be shot for this, but imo Danny would benefit from another season with us, if not more. Newcastle are the biggest club he is going to get a chance at, and even then there is the chance he could end up a fringe player or a bench warmer. It is a big risk taking that step up, not that he is not good enough, and it could end up ruining his career rather then furthering it.
I disagree totally with babyhornetdan. DG is ready for the move up and with his attitude, fitness and form I believe will make the step as he did to champ level. Another season at watford would not benefit him though it might well benefit the club in terms of goals bu we need to be realistic and DG is worth more than we can pay at the moment and is a class act worthy of a shot in the prem and possibly a run in the England side. I'd be interested to know babyhornetdan what part of his game he could better develop with us in the champ next season as opposed to the greater space he'll get in the prem?
I agree with aberdeen in that to me DG is one of those players that rises to the challenge - he might start slow at a Prem club, but he will deliver as he improves with the challenge. Like everyone, I do not want him to go because he is a quality footballer and because he is a model professional, but if the geordies have some of their Carrol cash burning a hole in their pocket, we will have to help them spend it!
Would want more than 2.5 m though! that is derisory considering the 27 goal season he has had! IMO he would easily adapt to the prem , as long as his manager gave him a run of games and kept faith in him! 2.5m less 375k to carlisle! 2.125m 30% of that to go to MM! its not a lot to play with
Guys, let me clarify my previous post. I am not saying he is not ready for the prem, i think he can be amazing there. What i am saying is that i feel he will do what a lot of championship players do by going to a prem club and being a bench warmer cos the manager does not give them the chance to shine. This is what i fear would happen, or he would do what he did with us and have a quiet season as he adapts and the manager sees this and drops him. This is not a good thing for him or anyone, and dont forget this is his first prolific goal scoring season. It could be a one off and next year he might only score 15. I think he has the ability to play in the prem, but i feel he will be better off staying with us where he is a fan favourite, and a favourite with the staff and other players.
I get what your saying bhd ,but we do have Mr B to support now , So he will be sold come what may! I dont think Mr B gives a **** about WFC and is only going to rip us for what he can get! I would be very surprised and highly delighted to see DG in a watford shirt next season!
I take your point Norway, although I look at it differently. In my view Danny being sold is best for player and club. He's unlikely to get a realistic chance of being a first team regular at a club as good as Newcastle again. We're unlikely to get as much money as we should be able to negotiate for Graham this summer. Malky (who if my memory serves me correct, is allowed a couple of hundred grand plus 30% of sales under the takeover agreement), is unlikely to get a 30% as good as this, and should be able to use the money to competently replace Graham and plug a hole on the left. And I believe that in Deeney and Sordell he is one shrewd signing short of a decent strike team, even if no individual will be as good as Danny. I believe Watford and Dasani's interests are aligned on this occasion. That doesn't make him any less of a disaster waiting to happen in my eyes.
If we could get ã5m then I think what your saying is true! Will Baz hold out for the best deal? remains to be seen ,but I doubt it! Anything less then I think it will be difficut (again) for MM . That said there will be a lot of players looking for a club this summer as a lot of clubs try to balance the books! a few shrewd last minute signings!!! who knows?
Given that he is not out of contract no-one can "force his hand" - and I doubt he would want to anyway - so we need to play a clever game and get the maximum for him. We need to stop other clubs thinking we are near bankrupt and this is a fire sale - it is not. If we let him go for less than ã5m we are stupid. I would rather have him than Emile Heskey and even Darren Bent - I think he is going to be a good Premiership player so long as he stays away from the top clubs where he would not get a look in. The likes of QPR would use him best
He had 2 amazing runs of scoring in every game this season and I can see his type of game working well for the 2nd tier of the Prem. I don't want him to go but if he does then I'd be confident he would succeed. He is mature now and believes in himself.
I would be very surprised if he went for less than 5 million and would in fact expect a tag of 7million or so plus addons (1million a season for staying up or the like as a minimum have you seen the TV revenue figures for next season!!). Just because we do not know or like Bastini, Bustini, Bastardini, Sinbaddi or whatever he needs to change his name to doesnt mean he shouldnt be able to deal on the transfer market as will if not better than Russo, after all he got the club at a decent price through either his or whoevers actions lets hope he can be shrewd in negotiating purchases and sales. bhd I read what you're saying but if this season was his peak then his chances of landing a decent prem deal must also be at a peak and if indeed his goalscoring did drop off if he stayed with us it would be worse for both him and club, agree with you NNW its good logical move for all as long as a little cash comes back for transfer in, it also provides the opportunity for Sordell, deeney et al to step up to the plate.
Totally agree if he went to a prem club where the manager would give him some backing and faith ,I feel sure he would do well!
Eh, the 15% sell on clause is understandable but 30% to Malky? What is that crap about? I don't see it in the article anyway.
From what i understand, (soley from what i have read on here) MM was promised to see 30% the cash from player sales to increase his budget and spend as he sees fit (with approval of course). If this is true then it shows some promise from the board and that they recognise that it is Malky who is the one to lead us to the promised land and the fact they are being relatively open about the pitch too. All in all this summer will be interesting and next season will be a new challenge.
bhd is right ! I think it was in the original statement from Mr B ! or the wobby It was a while back though ! Just after the takeover!
