Not getting Fraizer Campbell is a blessing in disguise. Firstly he's done **** all since he was last with us. DJ Campbell has already demonstrated he can play and score in this division with 10 goals in 17 games. We've got the better deal if we sign him.
This is no last minute thing. We were sniffing around him in August and submitted a bid at the time. I don't know if it was formally accepted and then withdrawn, or withdrawn before they had chance, but the deal was acceptable to QPR and then didn't go ahead. Possibly Simpson doing well for us made us decide to wait as we also knew Aluko would be granted temporary clearance eventually, possibly because we couldn't offload McLean at the time. QPR have just started making moves in the market themselves with Remy joining, and I suspect there'll be another (not M'Vila as he's a midfielder) before the end of the window to cover Cisse's departure to the Arab leagues. Once those deals, or Zamora/Johnson comes back from injury Campbell will be available.
Think we will push the boat out and really go all out to get DJ Campbell. He's the goal poacher we need and if we get him I reckon that buying him, and securing Elmo back on loan, will be our total inward movement of the January window.
We don't just have Jan for loans. Only PL teams need to get their deals done now. I hope all this media linking with players doesn't start a whole new slating players when they don't join.
If we go for emergency loans though the players can be recalled after 28 days. If we sign them on season long loans they can't be recalled (and played) so we'd only be likely to lose them if the club was selling the player to a foreign side that was still in a transfer window. (and in the case of Elmo, DJ Campbell, and Stockdale they would have to be teams that played a January-December season rather than our July-June season)
IF being the operable word. When have we managed to sign a player that is the target of several clubs. Especially when one of those clubs is in an area reputably favoured by said player.
How does that work with Elmo then Ricardo. I was under the impression he was a season long loan with an option to buy if we went up? He was recalled, rather contradicts what you just wrote?
I was comparing what could happen after January based on whether we did an "end of season" loan in January or waited until February and made an emergency loan. A season long loan (or half season loan) can only be terminated in a proper transfer window, so Sunderland were able to cancel Elmo's loan as we're in January. Once we hit February, if we have players on long term loans they can only be cancelled if the player is being sold abroad (and that team needs to be in their transfer window, so eg MLS). In Stockdale's case he can also be recalled if Fulham are left with only 1 professional keeper available due to injury (and they're due to have 3 of them any time now so it would be 2 injuries).
I don't like that attitude though. We (I mean the club and management rather than fans by the way) always seem relaxed about not having signed any players at the end of a window because 'there's always the emergency loan window', but then when that opens we get comments from the club like "We'll do all we can to sign someone but there aren't a lot of players available on emergency loans." I find it incredibly naiive that it happens every year with us...
