Even though I dislike the Premier League and SKY TV, and the modern media business part of football, which actually doesn't contribute one more mouthful of food into deprived bellies any more than the the old era of football [just to sum up its real importance in the World], I was always heartily fed up with Saints being plucky, jolly good losers, little Southampton, struggling Southampton, everyone's second favourite team [often because they were plucky but entertainingly easy to beat], hard working Southampton, a team without stars [because we couldn't afford any]. I have never, ever liked that. I liked seeing Peter Osgood, Kevin Keegan, Peter Shilton, Mick Channon, etc... These weren't players who played for a plucky team. They were skilful stars and meant business on the pitch. I'm damned if I have to go back to following a cannon fodder team just to appease some bleeding hearts who can't see the wood for the trees. This CEO means to take this club all the way. You can boo him when we qualify for the Champions League.

Do you honestly believe that Spanish football journalists are any different to the clowns we have in this country? Most of them don't even know the rules of the game, let alone have the credentials to know if a manager is any good or not.

No one is stupid... until they do something stupid. This could well be Cortese's moment.

But earlier it was said he was told when he arrived, hence the note on the dressing room door. Both can't be right can they?, atm I take it as paper bull **** just to sell more papers.

Nigel will take his time surely. Blackpool is a decent job, but he doesn't need the money and can wait for the right job. He won't want to do an Appleton and switch jobs if a better one comes along.

Wish I had Nigel's home address so I could send him a letter of condolence *edit* Thanks! For his time here at Southampton and the many happy memories from our last 2 half years with the saints. Would adding flowers be to much?

Ah, that was a cracker indeed. My memory was the penalty against Norwich which sent Saints into the JP Trophy Final.

The same b*llshit that was going about Pochettino last night???

Really hope Nigel dosen't go there, similar CEO as ours without the dosh.

I hope Nigel takes a break and waits for the right job for him, impressive CV and will be top of the list for almost any club looking to hire a manager.

Don't believe that Nicola wouldn't tell NA...he's not a man to shirk giving bad news. However, perhaps Nigel thought he had done enough to keep his job and the timing was a shock. MP said that he had heard rumours linking his name with Southampton and being a curious man had made enquiries. Perhaps Cortese realised that he was available and interested and it all moved fast before he got a job elsewhere. Rapido! After that press conference I felt I could speak Spanish.

By the way, MP says he will speak English in the dressing room where he will not be ashamed to make mistakes, so he does speak a bit. Also he understood some of the questions before they were translated.

You are forever the voice of optimism, However not even you can cheer me up now. I had calmed down earlier while i was at work, but getting home and sitting down to think about what we have done almost makes me feel ill. I know for a fact it'll take me hours to get to sleep tonight.

Well it seems to work on the iPhone app. Oh no, my mistake. "Cortese" has not been replaced by "*******" ;)

I am always optimistic, because I want everything to work out for Saints. I also try and see most people's point of view, which I am reliably informed can also be annoying. Hope you get some sleep.
