all ifs and buts fact is he isnt tested at PL level, 7 million is way to much for championship graded\tested player. Goals stats are skewed and hardly applicable as untested at this level, if we are going to spend that sort of money i would want someone that has proved his worth at PL level, yes we wont get the best but the likes of DG are available i would rather pay more for him than gamble on an unknown. Jermaine beckford anyone?
Interesting snippet from Lennons presser earlier "for the moment, weve rejected there bid" Those 3 words are very interesting...
Might be a case of if he goes up in person and asks to leave he can come then... Wont want someone about who doesn't want to be there
No, what I'm actually saying is Hooper is an expesive risk, a foreigner is a less expensive risk with a greater potential. I'm not against signing Hooper I certainly think he could be good enough for us, I just think 7 million is well in excess of what your paying for, the 5 million is about right given his age and where he's scored his goals. What happens if we spend 7 million and he flops, we can't afford that kind of waste and wage. For 7 million quid I expect something pretty damn special and I don't want to see it wasted just because we have **** scouts abroad. It has absolutely nothing to do with Michu as I've been banging on about this for months. Michu just proves the point there are very good players out there who don't cost the earth. The truth is if Hooper and Graham were Belgian, French, Portuguese, Swedish or African etc playing for mid to lower top league teams we'd probably get them both for 7 million.
What is it with you and your fixation with foreign players carrabuh ? Not every player in Europe is a Messi ?
Is that a question or a statement, you should try slapping your own head a bit more, it may knock some sense in.
The real fact here is ANY acquisition that isn't well researched is a risk. Everyone has personal preferences but lets take the sainted Michu, he wasn't even a striker before this season he played midfield in Spain. Without proper knowledge of this why on earth would you try and sign him? You can't sign a player on youtube videos and hearsay. You need to go and have a look at the player and come to a conclusion yourself. Chris Hughton has seen Gary Hooper and Danny Graham play this season. That fills me with a bit more faith.
Just as well we're not debating this in a pub sunshine cos that would get you a slap young keyboard warrior !
Fact is, this is the first January window were we MIGHT actually do some business, perhaps we should all calm down a bit because as per usual the window will probably slam shut with no-one coming through the doors at Carrow Road
Foreign players generally represent far better value for money, I completely agree with Carrabuh's points. I would rather we looked abroad in the summer to be honest. £7 Million is a lot of money and I think if we looked in Belgium or the Scandanavian countries you could probably get a striker for far less. Nicklas Helenius, Andreas Cornelius and Alfred Finnbogason. Three players who would be risks but have goals in them for their current clubs and would be cheaper than Hooper. Saying that I am not totally against the Hooper move because I have complete faith in Hughton and CHester.
To be fair he started this season playing attacking midfield didn't he? and he covered some injuries up top and the rest is history. Still got bags of goals for Rayo Vallecano highest scoring midfielder in La Liga last season. The reason they got him was Michael Laudrup was manager and Rayo were in financial crisis. But nonetheless fair play to Swansea for making the most of it.
Carrabuh and Kickitoff calm down - I can see why you're both upset but lets remember where we are Now, to previously unmentioned business. Do you reckon we would let Hooper wear 88? What about if he played for England?
More rumours - Morison to Leeds and Mr Warnock. Morison value £1.5m - 2.0m? Can't see Warnock stumping up this amount money of unless he fancies selling us Bechio who does not appear to be on our radar
For anyone who advocates going abroad for value, Michu is the worst possible example. Swansea got him very cheap because his buy-out clause was very low and Real Vallecano's debt problems meant they were forced to sell. The combination of those two is actually pretty unlikely. The only reason his buy-out clause was low was because he'd basically been a slow, under performing winger for several years. Moved into the middle and he was brilliant, so his value shot up. However, that is extremely fortunate. Swansea did brilliantly to get him, but that sort of bargain won't occur for a long time. That's not to say there isn't good value abroad, just he's a poor example. As for Hooper, he is worth paying up to £10/11m for. He's young, has a great eye for goal and a very good record, relatively quick, technically good. He's astep up on what we have, even on Holty. If we get him for £7m we'll have done well. He represents a much safer £7m spent than any striker from abroad.
