Cortese can **** off. Firing managers for no reason really pisses me off. Especially how much we as fans value Nigel

As far as I am concerned this has been a **** of a day!

 

I read somewhere he has money to spend and has apparent links into football. This could be a very exciting time in the club.

Nigel (Mr Positivity) would find something positive about to say even about his own sacking...so can we about our new manager. I want him to succeed.

Don't see why I should. "Falling out of love" with the team over this is ridiculous and I stand by that. If it came across as blunt and offensive then I apologise but I stand by the message.

I've told you time and time again, rather than posting things like this, send me a PM and abuse me to your heart's content.

 

People will feel the way they feel mate and there's nothing wrong with that, some things are more important to some people than others. The team is the same, the club will go on much the same, and to some people that's all that matters and all they support, but Nigel meant a lot to many fans and their grieving may seem disproportionate to you but is perfectly reasonable.

Forty years a Southampton fan and feeling ashamed of my club tonight.... I started a thread not so long ago now about it being half-way through the season and what rating should we give Nigel out of 10. I was pleased to see so many fans actually rated him higher than me (5). He had a tough introduction; initial 4-3-3formation was wrong, shoe-horned players into the wrong positons and some strange substitutions - but he was learning and just like the players are and he was starting to achieve. The away draw at Stamford Bridge came about because of the belief that Nigel instilled in the changing room - not just about Lambert and Puncheon, or Morgan's outstanding contribution throughout that game.

He deserved alot better than he has been treated - hence the embaressment I feel tonight. Whatever anybody said about us in recent times and our lowly league status - I have met so many fans of different clubs in many parts of The World; the message has invariably been the same; we have been a club that has been respected for our honest endeavour and our integrity - Cortese has taken that from us today.

On a positive note for Nigel; you are a credit to professional football and most importantly your family. Your star is soaring and you have left us on a high - two consecutive promotions and now a proven talent in the EPL. Some club out there will recognise this shortly and will be fortunate to have you as their manager. Best wishes for the future and I cannot wait to see you return to St Marys; be assured of a glorious reception from those of us who are now forever in your debt.

 

Cortese made this decision...so I am not ashamed of Saints or the fans.

 

Haven't posted today as I've been trying to get my thoughts together on the whole situation. Firstly I think if Cortese is sure that Adkins isn't the "person to lead us to the next level" then why does he think that the next level is obtainable this season?

Based on our current position in the league and with the amount of games left surely the aim for this season at this current point is to stay in the league and no more. The targets outlined at the start of the season may have been different, and this could've added to Adkins' sacking, but I don't see that getting rid of him now improves our chances of staying in the league. Based on the last 12 games it seems that Adkins was learning how to manage this squad and how best to utilise them to win points in the PL, so even if we only added Forren this window I would've been confident that we could stay up with him in charge and finish about 16th or so.

Then in the summer if Cortese decides to pull the trigger then he can use excuses like we spent a lot of money on the squad, felt we underachieved in the last season or that Adkins isn't the right man to take us to the next level and then go for the more "name" manager. This would then give the new man the summer to bring in his own players and try and build his team.

The only logical things I can think of of sacking Adkins at this moment in time is that we are trying to get some big name foreign players (Astori, Coutinho perhaps) and they have said that they didn't want to come as they don't know who the manager is or something along those lines. But as I have already said I think that we couldve achieved safety with Adkins at the helm with the current squad, so not too sure why Cortese feels its imperative to get these bigger names in now rather than the summer. The other possibility is that Adkins and Cortese have had a major falling out and one had to go.

Cortese has stated before that he wants us to become a powerhouse in English football, or words to that affect, and I think to do this we will have to take some massive gambles on the way. Every one of these gambles could backfire massively or they could pay off handsomely. I honestly think that it will be **** or bust with Cortese and these gambles, he obviously thought that Adkins couldn't be the man to get us into the top 10 and push for Europe, and he doesn't seem to want to wait and bide his time being a lower table/relegation PL team and wants to rise up quickly. Whether or not this is possible only time will tell.

Regardless whats done is done now and while I believe that Adkins was incredibly harshly treated I will still get behind Pochettino and the team and hope it works out for the best.

 

Can't quite believe adkins has been sacked. If it happened at start of season you could maybe say harsh but fair but when eam were finally on the up this cant be a good thing for clubs hopes of staying up

 

See where your coming from but this is not going to happen, except for the two defeats.

The majority of Saints fans are very angry, I'm one of them, not a good emotion if you want to think rationally.

No, I would seriously have been more angry if Adkins had been sacked during the summer. He had a chance to add PL manager to his CV this season and may have another chance. Sacked in the summer would have given me a worse taste in my mouth.

 

Unfortunately I don't think his message rubbed off on everyone. We've still got people on here who will get suicidal after a draw at Stoke.

 

Yes, thanks Mikey, that sums up my feelings pretty well, too. Dan I have a lot of time for your posts but you have to allow room for people's emotions. I am a pretty hard-bitten, twice-divorced man in my late 50's but this morning for a couple of hours it did feel like someone I loved had died. I don't feel like that now, the grieving process has been accelerated because nobody did die, but I just feel sad for my club and for a fine human being. Such is the complexity of human nature, however, that at the same time I have glimmerings of curiosity and excitement about what strange turn is going to take place next for the team. I'm a football supporter, don't expect ****ing rationality!
