I didn't say you couldn't chant about Adkins feel free, although I'd only do it at the Everton game from there we simply have to move on. I'll almost certainly moan at some point this season but I'm willing to give the new man a chance.

I've just realised that Mauricio has only come because he is Adam's Uncle.

Very true Sainthudson but there will be the enevitable backlash. Saints fans have a great affinity with Nigel and Cortese must be blind if he has not seen this.

Without a shadow of a doubt there will be chants for Nigel on Monday and your right in the fact that it may well effect the players. If their form suffers, we'll be heading back to The Championship. I hope I'm wrong but I think Cortese may have well f**ked up this time, I think he may well have under estimated the fans reaction.

I only hope that the new manager hits the ground running.

Hang on a sec, I know we are due some greif from the crowds, but how many Hammers were on here saying we should get Redknapp before its too late, even your little annoying name looks familar, so if you can find your hook, heres a nice suggestion.......

I have no problem with people voicing their concerns as long as it's done at the appropriate time, if people want to chant at the game do it at the start, half time or end. The last thing the team needs is the distraction while playing.

I personally wouldn't chant as it, in my opinion, it won't accomplish anything. Might as well give the new guy a chance. We all thought the same thing when Cortese brought in Adkins and as far as I'm concerned he hasn't put a foot wrong as yet. One the face of it, it looks like a bad decision but I'm not going to jump on his bad till it's been proven to be a bad decision.

Yeah I will too join in with the chanting of "one nigel adkins" but to to be honest I believe cortese will expect it but will believe he is right with his actions.

Protest by all means but before or after the game for God's sake (it will still carry the small amount of weight that it will garner under this regime). There is absolutely no sense in doing it during the game, the team will be up against it enough on Monday night.

    Hi

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have been a saints fan my whole life, I am now 32. Today is the first time that's can really say that I have fallen out of love with my team.

Even through the dark days of rupert lowe and relegation I have kept the faith. I now live in nottingham but continue to think of the saints as my team, today it doesn't feel like that anymore.

I truly believed that nigel would be our Alex ferguson, that in 20 years time he would still be at the helm. I am gutted.

I have loved the last few years, they have rekindled my passion for the saints and we had a team I could really be proud of, an example to all. Well run, strong core of young English players that are showing they can now compete at the highest level. Young, hungry players coming through the academy and a manager we could be proud of.

Had we been relegated this season with less points than derby I would have still backed nigel, sang his name, as I thought we were planning for the long term, stability and the Southampton way.

    How wrong I was.

Sorry, I know there are plenty of other threads about this but I needed somewhere to vent my feelings.

Not since the 1990 World Cup have I felt this close to tears about something related to football. I was 10!

    Thankyou for everything nigel.

    Good post.

    Couple of points:

    1. We should sing Nigel's name before the game and maybe at a push at half time as a tribute. If we do it during the game it will be a distraction and detrimental to the team.

    2. Everyone talks about hitting the ground running .... blimey. Everton and United away. In my pre today predictions, I have us losing both games. Wigan is where he must be allowed to get to.

That's ridiculous, it's like a teenager crying their life is over after they've been dumped. The team is still the same, don't overreact.

    Actually your right.
It does feel like that, it feels like a girlfriend has cheated and although I still love her, the relationship is tarnished.
Sure we will kiss and make up but I don't know if it will ever feel quite the same.

that was my point that all fans should sing and let their frustration out at Everton and move on. however I still wouldnt care it fits in with NC "5 year plan" this guy would still have a year.

Oh that's being a total rotter, Dan. People are really disappointed today. Just because you and I might be over it doesn't mean to say we should condemn those who aren't, especially as this fan doesn't assign blame to anyone. He's just bloody well upset.

I hope and expect you to think again and apologise.
