Stripehampton have sacked Nigel Adkins and replaced him with Mauricio Pochettino, an Argentine who previously managed Espanyol. It will be interesting to see how he does as Adkins seemed to have got them playing a lot tighter and they are moving towards safety. That said, a lot of people citicised Cortese for replacing Pardew with Adkins and he got that one spot on. This was obviously a planned and coordinated move, so credit for having a replacement in place before firing the gun, but it just shows that there is no loyalty or sentiment (or room for it) in the Premier League; the stakes are so high. How do our stripey friends feel about this?
Well, its all a bit doom and gloom over on the Saints board. Adkins sacked and some Argentinian bought in. Boycotting the Everton game this weekend also...... ......a lot of very annoyed stripeys! To be fair though, who can blame them. Crazy ridiculous decision to sack a manager who is keeping you afloat in the best league in the world.
LFiH - we posted similar topics at exactly the same time! LOL Possible thread merge from the Mods please?
Surprised, but given what happened with Pardew and Adkins, I believe the chairman knows what he's doing. He doesn't pick the names out of a hat, after all.
There were rumours circulating on twitter last night - but it seemed a crazy idea, then I noticed that it hit some of the papers this morning. No loyalty in football is there. Cortese may know what he's doing - but he is also going to come a cropper one day, just like Abromovic.
Loved this tweet BBC Solent Sport ‏@solentsport Notable headlines from Pochettino interview (via interpreter): "I know about the squad as I've been researching for several weeks" #saintsfc
Incredible, unbelievable decision by Cortese - totally baffling Just been reading some of the posts on the BBC Sport Football site. Saints fans are understandably not at all happy with Cortese and the Saints board. A lot of fans from other clubs are commenting also. Take a look at some of the following:- 1140.Charlotte The Ships Cat 2 Minutes ago More unsavory rubbish in Southampton FC than a tesco beef burger! Southampton FC DO NOT have a board it's just NC, the others named on Wikipedia don't exist (at least no one I have spoken to at St Mary's ever has seen them) Like all good bond villains it's just NC and a white cat and Les Reed as Ygor. 1138.Bull_in_China 16 Minutes ago 18-01-2013 A date that will live in infamy (in Southampton at least). Cortese ... you're a banker. 1231.surferjj 3 Minutes ago could this be to do with his handling of the Rodriguez dive?? Baffled and embarressed saints fan 1181.goughie66 15 Minutes ago The same happened with Spurs. We sacked Martin Jol when he was doing a great job and brought in Juande Ramos and look what happened there. I feel sorry for the Saints fans. Atkins will be fine, he gets a good payoff and hopefully a bigger and better job at a more professional club. Maybe he'll take Portsmouth back to the Premier league! 1086.David Windsor 35 Minutes ago Ridiculous. What do Soton expect- if they survive in the PL that will be a triumph for them, and they have to expect the same battle every year. Any ambition beyond that isn't going to happen . In that context Adkins was doing a good job. The new guy is more likely to invade the Falklands than lead them to an enduring and comfortable PL life! 1067.Tyto alba 42 Minutes ago As a Pompey fan - not sneering at Southampton - this decision is bizarre. Adkins has made Saints actually watchable and looked set to deliver survival in the PL. What a nonsense. 1055.anyoldiron 47 Minutes ago Feel for Saints fans here to be honest. The bloke can't even speak English according to Radio Solent and whilst I'm a hammer with no grudge against the Saints, this could be a real problem for the team. 1013.southern man 56 Minutes ago As a Saints fan, I am shocked and saddened. The last 2 years has been so exciting for Southampton - thank you, Nigel, for all you have done and good luck. I am sure that you know yourself that this decision by the Board is irrational and unfair. With Nigel in charge we would have stayed up. With this new Argentinian manager,I'm not so sure now...and at the moment not so sure I care either. 1008.mdstone 57 Minutes ago As a Utd fan I think Adkins has done a good job at Southampton. The owners are clearly punching above their weight to expect anything more from their team. Most fans would have accepted Premier league survival and I think he was the right may to keep them up. He gets no thanks for back to back promotions. Club owners need to be more loyal (just look at Wigan). Sorry saints but you're gone! 980.Highrised 1 Hour ago A disgusting act by disgusting people. Sorry for Adkins and sorry for the fans having people like that running their club. Shame on those faceless, greasy business types calling the shots. 975.Rolf McHarris 1 Hour ago So that's one relegation place sown up then. Who will go down with the Saints? 973.Lord Pendock 1 Hour ago Of all the recent dismissals of Premier League managers, this must rank as the most undeserved and stupid.Nigel Adkins is a highly intelligent Manager with an exemplary record at Southampton and a success rate, in terms of victories of 54%. His replacement, a relative unknown had a success rate of 33.5% with Espanyol which is, presumably, why he was dismissed. No wonder Guardiola chose Germany.

What the actual hell!? I had to go on sky sports just to check this wasn't a wind-up! So, Adkins performs a managerial masterclass at Stamford Bridge mid-week, and manages to pick up 3 points virtually every time Saints play a team around them, and keep their head just above the relegation drop-line. Saints fans- there are two ways you may go down, after Adkins has gone. 1) You do a "Tottenham/Portsmouth", and get a good manager to establish yourself as a top 6 Prem team. 2) You do a "Wolves" of last season- and not win in all the games (they had 20) the new manager controls, and finish last and get relegated. It will be interesting to see how the new manager changes things. Good luck
If clubs can change managers, I can change the club I support! Bye bye Southampton and hello Borussia Dortmund!!! There it's done!!
Pieiking, mate, you know I don't have a clue about some of these old British movies/tv programmes/ propoganda! If anyone can explain what Bazingaa is then please tell me!
Behold Sheldon Cooper, a supergenius with OCD and Aspergers. Annoyingly literal most of the time.
Nice friendly fan you are Pieking with such a cheap shot remark! Are all Saint fans as sh***y as you? I am not a fan who believes in supporting a club through thick and thin! My support has to be earned. Saints regained it in at the beginning of the season 2009/10 season - at the time of the 10 point reduction all the way through League 1 up to now! It is still there but......
