We're just grateful we didn't get Sam. My next hope is that you lot don't get Nigel when Fat Sam is sacked in the summer...

Yep, he's highly regarded by Spanish football fans because Espanyol were in the ****ter.

Also if you're struggling with spelling his name, a lot of people call him "Poch" so that's pretty easy.

It's hard to imagine that Adkins was a goner for months and the players didn't have even the slightest inkling. Sure, they spend much of their day bouncing a ball off their heads, but many have IQs exceeding room temperature.

"Despite being a fans' favourite due to his stellar playing career with the club - he made over 250 appearances at centre-half - former Argentina international Pochettino appeared to be on borrowed time after supporters turned during yesterday's game with calls of "resign" pouring down from the stands."

Im sorry but this is rubbish. When you agree to work on a particular project for a defined amount of time you are contracting and are not normally a full employee of the company you are working for. Its common in my line of work too but this is not what has happened here. If it was then Adkins would have waved goodbye last May once he had completed the project he was hired for.

It seems you just want to find a way to justify the despicable manner in which Cortese has given Adkins the tin tac.

Erm, Adkins had a contract. He was not a permanent employee of the club. Im just trying to establish the facts here, I have no agenda other than being a fan of the club.

Well we all know from his press conferences that he's quite good at keeping information to himself. I think players generally are pragmatists, they know the manager can be sacked at any time, and they seem to have taken the news in a professional manner, and don't seem particularly surprised. Well, with the exception of Luke Shaw, who declared himself 'confused', but he's inexperienced.

Fat Sam's agricultural football is perfect for those simple, unsophisticated East end folk who lap it up with the same relish that they gorge on eel pies...:emoticon-0119-puke:

In case anyone is still unsure about this, rest at ease, Lawro has spoken:

"Pochettino arrives at St Mary's not knowing anything about his players, or with any Premier League experience."
"He is going to get a crash course, and with a little bit of luck he might even know a few of their names by the time this game kicks off."

I'm so glad we have the benefit of his insight.

Here's a question I was wondering. Did Nigel sign a contract extension since he joined the club? I have read that he had a 3 year contract from 2010... so that would have meant his current contract would have expired by the start of next season anyway?

If this is the case then his leaving at this moment in time would make sense in that it gives the new manager a chance to put his own stamp on the squad, hopefully keeping us up, before having pre season to build us into a mid table team for next season. Just a thought.

He signed a new contract in summer 2011, running until 2015, I believe: http://www.wave105.com/news/local/Adkins-Pens-New-Contract/

A longer contract means better pay off. Won't make up for hurt feelings, but will give him time to make a careful decision about his new job. Not Blackpool, Nige.

Because the Oystons are notoriously difficult to get along with and don't exactly splash the cash, they're looking like a mid-table Championship side at best, and their pitch is frequently in terrible shape, which makes for a bad match with Adkins' preferred style?

Nigel sould walk into any bottom half Premier league club. Not to say he will have his pick of any Football league club he wants.
