Are you sure you used enough adjectives? You could probably squeeze a few more in if you really try.

Yeah, he knows the answer would be controversial. But he's (unwittingly?) already answered it by saying he's been watching our games for the last few weeks.

Cortese's decision this morning ranks amongst some of the worst ever made at the club. Quite why he decided to dismiss someone who had achieved back-to-back promotions and proved he was becoming a fast learner in the ruthless world of the PL is beyond me. It makes no sense whatsoever. When Liebherr bought the club we were told that it was because of his affection for the people of Southampton. I think Cortese has today shown that he does not understand these people who loved Adkins and respected what he had achieved.

My biggest disappointment is that Adkins is not only the best manager we have had at SFC since Strachan , he had the potential to become the McMenemy of our era. No other ,manager has quite matched the profile of Lawrie since Nigel who I felt was sensible and talked the game calmly and with knowledge. I felt that Nigel seemed to reflect the core values of Southampton Football Club and it was as if he was tailor made for the appointment. He was a gentleman and his modesty very much appealed to a set of supporters who distrust big-time Charlies. Had he been allowed to stay, this club would have gone forward in the manner most fans would have wanted and I feel that even if we got relegated, the fans would still by him. Adkins had the potential to be our greatest manager since Lawrie and should have been given a better chance. Had he kept us up, I feel we would have reached a point where he would have struggled to keep him as he is simply one of the best Engkish managers in the game. In short, in a world full of managers who complain when decisions don't go for them and lack the sporting ethos, I feel Nigel was a beacon of values that, if not Corinthian, atleast reflected the more sober nature of Saints fans.

Whilst the new coach my be good, I think Southampton's strength is their homespun nature and for Cortese to do what he has done to Adkins makes me feel sick. This is not what we stand for and it is a decision that is wrong for so many reasons. Saints were not only likely to escape relegation this season but we were going about it in the good old "Southampton style." I thought the days of Lowes lack of football knowledge causing havoc were over but I'm afraid this is a decision that suggests the person in charge has no appreciation of when someone is doing a good job. In addition to this, the fans were extremely vocal in their love of Nigel and I feel he has kicked his customers in the teeth. I think any respect and affection the fans had for Cortese has now all gone and he is on the slippery slope out of the club as the fans will not tolerate a manager they had seen something of their values being reflected in being casually dispensed with.

Thank you Nigel for what you have done for my club. You did not deserve that.

I hope I get there, I am glad that some of you have accepted it now. But I'm not sure I understand why this has happened yet. Nigel will be ok, not sure his family will be thrilled about moving again, but there we go. I think I'll have to give it few days and see how I feel then. Nothing against the new guy whatsoever. Anyway I've got revision to do and this is a good excuse to not go on the internet.

I think it's disgusting how some PL clubs treat their manager.

Adkins was a true Saint and a great manager for you.

Have to say, i don't think i've ever been as unsure and worried about the future of the club as much as i am right now. Even in league 1 on minus 10. I atleast felt at that stage that this was about as bad as it gets and that the only way was up. But today is strange, we have heard nothing of Pochettino's back room staff, and despite what Nicola Cortese keeps saying about long term ambitions he has as of yet failed to explain what his ambitions actually are.

He's been pretty clear I thought?

At the end of the day his job is to get the best return on the Liebherrs' investment he can, and to do that he needs to establish us as a top-half premier league side at the very least.

I spose you're right. I'm just failing to see what Pochettino will add and most worryingly how he will be able to inspire a team who were playing on Adkins positivity rather than actuall ability.

That's a bit miserable isn't it? They clearly have enough ability!

It'll be interesting to see who comes in to replace them. Will he keep the staff he had with him in Spain (not that I know who these people were), or or will he look to bring in a coach/ex-player or two who knows the Premier League; maybe even knows our football club.

On the basis that he can't yet speak English, I certainly wouldn't be against an English speaking coach or two to support him.

I don't think so, If you look at our squad i'd say we were quite possibly overachieving under Adkins.

I think we know Nicola's ambition...endless. I have always said that Cortese's view of Saints was even greater than that of the fans as SFC was regarded as a reflection of himself. We are used to being a decent club who may get midtable and possibly win a cup. Nicola has never hidden the fact that he regards that as lacking ambition. He honestly sees us as a future Champions League side...he's not necessarily deluded because the present top sides started somewhere. He has a vision of us as a top side and has made this decision because he believes this is the way to achieve it. We think he is wrong, but he thinks he is right. His track record is good, so we will have to wait and see. As a Saints fan, I hope he is right.

I agree with that. Adkins is good at working with the tools he is given...look at the Scunnies. He has organized the team and convinced them to stick to the plan...we are over achieving, though we may only be a couple of players short of being a decent side.

After 2 and a half years one thing Nigel Adkins taught us was to always remain positive. I'm upset that Nigel has been sacked but I will not go on as you have all heard that by now. However We NEED to back Maurico Pochettino. I can understand us chanting "one Nigel Adkins" but we must not make St Mary's a negative place like Stamford Bridge.

Although we would of preferred Nigel to remain our manager but unfortunately he is not.

we need to quickly move on from this and remain positive otherwise we will see our negativity reflect onto the pitch.

We have a role to play in this as now...

    POSITIVITY
