The No.1 target tag was the Mail's, what Bruce actually said(Dec 14th) was...

"I took him to Sunderland for a lot of money and, a bit like David Meyler, he's had a tough time with injuries.

"I'm mindful of how well he did here and I like him both as a player and a boy.

"If it was possible then we'd certainly have a look at it but I'm not sure it is possible. We'll just have to see how things pan out."

Although Campbell is the Tigers' preferred target, Bruce is keeping an open mind as he looks to January.

"We've got our targets," he added. "There's one or two irons in the fire as we speak but a manager's job should always be to be proactive."

He didn't ever say, 'now I've missed out on my number one target, I'm going for DJ Campbell', only when quizzed about the link at today's press, did he confirm we were talking to QPR.

Yes, I think you are right. And, of course, we started to worry we were going to get nobody. So he seemed like a good option. Actually we should have had more faith in SB, but we've been trained to think if we're in for someone the club will broadcast it (Think "Blow your socks off"). So I blame Duffen, the twat!

To be honest, FC would have been under increased pressure to replicate his scoring feats of 2007/8 if he came back.

His confidence is probably fragile after his lean time at Sunderland, so a fresh start at Cardiff is a better option, as he'll be under less pressure.

If you see what I mean....

It's a terrible shame that we've missed out on Campbell, he's an absolute steal at the £650,000 fee being reported. I think Cardiff are nailed on to win the league now.

Going to repeat what I posted on another thread.

    Smokescreen my backside...

This wasn't a cunning plan to hide our real target - we haven't got one! Bruce kept the hope as he perhaps still had hope. With no other name, he let speculation run. I am sure he'd have hoped FC changed his mind, so he kept a door open publically. Sure he knew it was a faint hope, as he says

He is no different from all the other managers - wants someone in, and will look at what comes up.

There isn't a master plan, and he will grab what he can get. He can't exactly say "we will see what comes up and have a go" if he wants to keep you lot happy!

If DJ was in his plans it would have been a done deal by now, not an enquiry as one of many made by other clubs who have just been alerted to him by either his club or agent.

Because they've both tried to use City again with probably no intention of coming here. It's a pretty shoddy way to treat a club that gave him his first real opportunity and that sort of devious
attitude might be part of the reason why MON wants shot of him.

Hardly, he won't even get off their bench. Look at his record, he's done nothing since 2008.

We haven't "lost" him, because we never wanted him (notwithsting what his Dad said).

I agree with all this. I rarely trust any clubs and managers to know what they are doing when it comes to transfers.

Repeat it on every thread if you like, it still won't be true. We have had, and still have got, targets. That's what an experienced manager like Steve Bruce brings you. The Allams will have a list of viable targets that we should monitor, and will have had it since summer.

I haven't seen it reported anywhere that he'll be on £30,000 a week, but if so that would be a massive dampener on the deal. I still believe though that he's a great talent and signing him would vastly increase our chances of automatic promotion.

It was widely reported that Steve Bruce had not spoken to Sunderland about FC. Pop Campbell just wanted to up the anti with Cardiff

Campbell would have done the business for us, never doubt that at this level.
For £30k a week??? Thats just mental.
To be honest if he has said he didnt want to come back because of the way it all went so well when we got promoted then thats fair enough, there were a lot of people on here saying you should never go back anyway, but is that another load of boll0cks?? We wiill never know.
He'll score goals for them, and he'll be back in the Prem next season, just hope we are too.

Did not MON state that City had not spoken to him (Sunderland?) about FC.
