It is freezing here too, cold winds and the houses are designed for the heat, which the majority of the time we have. catching the tail of a hurracane fromt he coast. BRRRR have a good weekend all !!
Do you do gigs GG? - always looking for a good night out. I'm going to a gig in Bedford at the end of the month. Still snowing in bandit country with about 1.5 inches settled. But the roads are all OK, so should be fine for tomorrow as long as the game is on!
Not sure if it is still open but the Horn in St Albans, near the train station. Has a number of cover bands and live gigs, good venue with a nice crown too but this was back in 2010 so not too sure if it is still up and running, no reason why not though...
Yeah I go there a bit Mexico - Mrs W_Y's nephew promotes a few bands and runs gigs there and a few other local places.
Club are announcing at 09.00 tomorrow if the game is on or not - Huddersfield coaches are due to leave at 09.30
unlikely that they'll play...but the club has said if the match is going ahead, they're asking for volunteers to come and clear snow i'll be there with my shovel!
I remember when I was younger, my Dad and I helping Les Simmons with replacing the divots in the pitch after matches.
We do, but very locally in The Old Crown at Ashton (the landlady is one of our singers) and the Globe in Hanslope. We do a few other private functions. I honestly don't think we're good enough to warrant travelling to see- yet! I've done years of playing to a high standard in a different genre (e-ceilidh, where the e is for English and/or electric) ) and a lot of acoustic music; this stuff is new to me and to most of the others,[ so it's all a bit raw and amateurish. If you like loud, cheerful and not very good, come and see us- I'll let you know when!
Just give me a bit of notice GG and I will try and make it - I will get Mrs W_Y to taxi me up and it's only about 30 mins. I love live music and you cannot beat a night in a pub listening to a band bashing out some tunes and having a load of beer...
I have just been having a look at the game between Le Mans and Chateauroux. There is snow around the perimeter of the pitch where it has been scrapped off the playing surface. The ground looks two thirds empty, with it being so cold and wet. I have to wonder if the Watford game should go ahead tomorrow would there be a very low attendance and more would turn out later in the season on a Tuesday night?
I can't help thinking back to 62/63 with all those games postponed due to snow - lost them all IIRC, during a slump of Malky-esque proportions & only won three games between February and May.
All I can remember about that winter was the mountains of snow that had been dumped in my local playing fields by Hemel council. As a small boy it was heaven, huge mounds of snow to play in...
Maybe the good citizens of Leicester agreed with ofh about the weather - only 8585 turned up for the match.
