I'm ashamed to be a Saints fan today, disgraceful, if a team is on the up why would you sack someone? This was planned a while ago and has been going for a while, how the hell could Cortese look Adkins in the eye?
Have to say, having battled through the snow to get home, on turning on my lap top to catch up with the latest, I was not expecting to see the "Adkins Gone" headline........Lambert yes.....not Adkins. Its a shame that your CEO has gone about this appointment in the manner he has........Adkins even under pressure seemed to me to have the majority of you fans on his side? Courtese has never been a popular figure amongst other chairmen of the prem.......I don't think this latest stunt will do him any favours! I have to say, since your inception back to the prem, I thought Nige had his best moment on Wednesday against Chelski......to come back from 2 down HT and get a draw was a huge result for you! Not sure about this new guy for you........ah well, at least all you have to worry about is your chairman......and spending.......and divides in the fans......and staying in the prem.............now, where have I heard that before BP
I´ll happily add my tribute: These days it has become the norm To sack bosses when they´ve done well, No surprise we´re all left forlorn Decision making´s gone to hell.
Because the timing is so weird - and looking back at Nigel's slightly melancholic statement after we won promotion last season - it may have been in the works for a long time, and Nigel knew he was just waiting it out. Am sure if it could have been done afte ten games, it would have been. The one thing that is fortunate about the timing - if that's the right word - is that the window is open, and some business can be done with the new guy in mind (if he has any say at all). The other positive, which I noted in another post, is that Nigel would have been poached at the end of the season anyway. That's the rules of the game. Like Nigel, this new guy is just a stepping stone.
Who would of poached him and where would of he gone? And would of he gone? Speculation and no evidence of that.
Nigel Adkins is a Southampton Legend. That term is all to easily used, but to pull us up from the depths of League 1 to the supposed promised land he deserves that status. I would buy that t-shirt and wear it with pride that we were so lucky to have Nigel manage our club.
Truely gutted for Nigel and embarrassed by our clubs actions Thank you Nigel, you have been absolutely brilliant and as others have said, you will be a true legend at the club in the same way Lawry is. We will remember you for dragging us up from the bottom of league 1 to 15th in the Prem and topping it off with your last game where your team turned round a 2-0 score against the European Champions at their place. I would suggest that all Saints fans adopt the club who hires Nigel as their new boss as their own 2nd club, just to support this top bloke!
Absolutely devastated. Found out middle of working today, and totally shook me. Gutted. Almost felt close to tears. Thanks Nige, gave me the two of the most joyous years of my Saints supporting life so far.
I think I speak for almost every Saints fan when I say Nigel was the greatest manager we've ever had. For him to do what he has done, it an amazing feat. and I'm sure he'll hold his head high. I don't quite know what it is but Nigel always created a vibe for me that no other manager we've had has ever done. He never just felt like a 'manager' he was a familiar face and 12 man for Saints. I am gutted by the decision to sack him, I really think we've lost one of the characters at Southampton that was closest to our image, and when he was sacked today I've really felt hollow and dissapointed. Being a Saint fan I'm no stranger to manager sackings... but this one really struck a nerve for me. I've never felt so saddened, hollow and angry by a sacking than the dismissal of Nigel. I've grown so fond of Nigel I imagine I'll keep a very close following on the rest of his career. Good luck Nigel, you'll always be a Saint in my books!
Thank you Nigel for everything you have done here at SFC!! Follow Pep's example, take time out of the game and enjoy quality time with your family until the summer, then make the correct choice. If Moyes is ever plucked from Everton, perhaps you'd be given a warm welcome there. I know Kenwright has his cricitics but he would never descend to the level that Cortese has managed with such devious underhand manouevring this past few weeks (or months)to have the new man already installed!!
