It is a fact that we have turned the corner and are getting better results. Where have you seen that he was linked with Real Madrid? The articles I have seen said he was considered for Valencia at one point, never the Bernabeu. The thing is, I do agree with all your points about giving a new manager time etc., and I really respect all your views on this board to be honest. My personal opinion is that for this point in time this is a massive step backwards for our club. If this had happened in the summer, I would be completely with you. Not mid-way through a sason just as we are starting to handle the premier league.
Not sure if this needs a new thread but now Nigel has gone, if he gets another PL post, which players would he take with him? I know that's a big if but there are possibilities, at least in the mid term. Besides some of the relegation battlers, Liverpool springs to mind
I said it makes a difference, not that it's impossible to sign good foreign players with an unknown manager. Try again.
Here's a summary of the Real rumours: http://www.demotix.com/news/1045148/pochettino-possible-substitute-jose-mourinho-real-madrid It seems like a risk, I'll give you that. But the timing doesn't seem that odd to me. The players are now equipped to stay up, removing Adkins doesn't take away their ability, or their confidence that they can stay up. Bringing in a new manager when we were bottom of the league would have been riskier, in my opinion. But I accept it's unusual in football to be sacked when you are in a period of relative success. The same happened to Pardew though, and I think we all agree that was a good change.
I'm a bit concerned about Rickie to be honest. Will this new manager want to use a target man type player as I can see him being the type to want the football on the floor as much as possible.
If you're not going to engage on at least some level with the gist of my argument then I think we're done here.
"With a preference for possession football and a keen eye for promoting youth, Pochettino is a good fit for Saints" You could just as well be writing that about Adkins.
We shall see Monday. I would like to think the majority will sing many pro Adkins songs as a protest but more importantly as a thank you. I'm confident that in the main the new manager will be welcomed and the players supported. I expect the "what the **** is going on?" Chant too Personally this is the most disappointing managerial change in my 20 odd supporting years( and there have been many), but I'm not going to stop supporting the club.
I really hate to say this as I know it isn't the new managers fault...but I just won't be able to clap when he comes onto the pitch on Monday, I'll only be able to stare on in renewed disbelief.
Pochettino: "there's no need necessarily to bring in new players before the window closes" #saintsfcâ Inspiring start, then.
Nathaniel Clyne on Twitter: "‎Looking Forward To Working With The New Gaffer, Hate To See A Manager Get Sacked, But I'm Sure He Will Be Back In The Game Soon."
