You can only surmise that there has been a fall out between manager and chairman - probably over Atkins wanting more money to strengthen the team for the run in. It cant be for their results which have been fairly good imo and especially the Chelsea comeback on Tuesday? I like Atkins and agree with much of the sentiment on here. I said several weeks ago that I thought they would survive as they have goal threats. Maybe I will change my mind now and would like to see the chairman **** up. Sad for the fans though as they have waited a long time to get back to the top flight and this Muppet owner has just thrown that into question.
Disgusting decision. First they make their strip all red and then they sack the bloke that resurrected their club. Twats...
Southampton are never going to be a force in the premiership IMO. Adkins was fine for them now what does Southampton think there next man will do
Unbeaten in 5 games, last game was a 2-2 draw at Chelsea. Along with Chris Hughtons/Sir Bobbys sacking, this has to be one of the worst and most outrageous sackings in the history of the Premier League. Truly awful decision!
I don't understand their thinking. They had stability under a successful manager, and now have instability. They were in a with a good shout of survining, stability is often key to this.
They were over performing I can see them getting relegated now. The only problem is this might be what keeps QPR and saggy face up.
Adkins will be back in work soon. How ironic would it be if he went to Vlla and kept them up at Sotons expense.
This my friend, would be fantastic! I really hope this happens now and he rams it right up the Southampton chairmans hoop.
I want QPR, Soton and Villa to go down. NUFC to survive on goal difference, becasue lets face it, we'd miss them.
I'll go with this. A NUFC relegation would be a laugh, but it's at least a year without the derbies and banter. Unless we both go down!
Na I want them down, just for a few years though so they suffer a little and then bounce back up about 2016/2017 I really can't see QPR going down either.
Fairly sad, the guy who is taking over is obviously some chump they know from Argentina. He was Espanyol manager, got sacked leaving them bottom of La Liga last November - all from Wikipedia, I know nothing of the guy, don't remember him as a player either. Adkins more than likely putting pressure on them to spend to survive and they've told him to get out. Every cloud though... at least Matt Le Tuss will be sulking into his dinner tonight, with a bit of luck it's soup and his nose will go far enough into the bowl to drown him.
Interesting stat relating to QPR... 1.62 is the average number of points required per game for QPR to reach 40 points. 1.619 is the average number of points ARSENAL have acquired so far this season in the league. Arsenal are 6th. QPR have to achieve what has been the 6th most consistent number of points this season, just to reach a survival target. That's European qualification form, if they lose their next fixture against West Ham, then they have to find 26 points from 15 games, that's the equivalent of performing better than Everton have this season and finally if they lose their next two games vs West Ham (A) and Manchester City (H) they'll have 14 games to find 26 points which is the equivalent of playing the last 14 games to a better standard than 4th place SPURS have played their first 22 games of the season. That's the task facing Harry Redknapp assuming 40 points is what it takes to survive. Who fancies QPR to stay up? My good friend loves stats by the way - this is what he told me when I said I fancy QPR to storm up the table!
A bizarre decision by Southampton. I think he was doing a decent job and came across very well with the press. I now think they will go down
Adkins took over a 22nd placed League One club and has gotten them into a safe position in the league. (What the previous Soton manager was up to I'll never know, considering the two subsequent promotions and relativley comfortable current position.)
I can't see QPR staying up. Villa have good players coming back from injury, Wigan are still playing good passing football. Newcastle have quality players to come back too, even Reading are picking up points. It will be close but I think QPR will go.
