A sensible post at last.

I was/am very disappointed and angry, but to be slagging the new manager off and to be not getting behind the team on Monday will on be detrimental to us. We must get behind the team, becasue as Fran says they will be feeling it too.

This is going to be a tricky few weeks for the team. I really thought Nigel Adkins was going to be something special, but we must get behind the team.

 

Been all over twitter for well over a week now, I just brushed it off.

 

I aree fully with the first part of your post. I love Southampton FC and we can not become like the Chelsea fans.

Give over will you, Fans have every right to express their opinion, any chants against Cortese / pro Adkins are if anything likely to resonate with and encourage the team.

 

Let's hope there is the new manager effect, though I'm not convinced that that myth is really true.

never really comment, but feel i have to for this, im absolutely shocked but we have to support pochettino even though i dont want to!

 

He defo was, yes the clappers still wont admit their loyalty was misguided, in fact they wont admit anything is wrong at all!

Thanks to both of you! It's VITAL that we get behind the team and don't spend the game slagging off the new bloke. It's not his fault, he has to get the results and the Everton game is already tough. COYR - let's get 3 points and then see where we can go. I'm no fan of Cortese, certainly not now, but as true fans we need to support the team and the new manager - not spend the game slagging everyone off.

Think you have been doing well. Played good footy throughout the season and lately getting the points you've deserved. Thought NA had steadied the ship and you where going in the right direction finally, always takes time to settle in the Prem. For me one of the most undeserved sackings I've seen, up there with Di Matteo's imo. With a new man already in place it tells me this is a process that started before the results improved and the leaders wasn't interested in going back on their initial approach.

Feel for you the fans, it's ultimately us who ends up paying the price for rash decissions made by chairmen up and down the country. Can't do anything else than wish you the best of luck, I'm afraid you might need it now.

 

Wow! Went to BBc news looking to see if there was any transfer news and then saw this. Totally shocked.

A great deal of thanks is owed to Nigel for all he has done for this club.

I presumed that Cortese had targets in mind for what he expected us to achieve and what he expected to see happening, and can only guess that those targets were not achived. That or he had the opportunity for this new guy and it was too good for him to pass up. Either way, he is in the hot seat and these are the decisions he has to make.

For fans to say we are just puppets seems a tad ridiculous. Football clubs are both a passion for fans and a business for the owners. Sometimes you are lucky and the the people running the club are also passionate about that. Marcus undoubtedly had that passion, and although he does not show it in the same way, I believe Cortese also has it.

Can anyone on here show me a decision that he has ever made in respect to this club that has proved to be a bad move? I can't think of one. Even when his decision to sack Pardew was widely thought to be wrong, he was proved to be right.

Marcus and Cortese started us on a fantastic journey. Following the sad loss of Marcus, Cortese has kept the journey going. For that I thank him, and for that I trust him. I have no reason not to.

Sorry if ranting, but hearing fans having a go at Cortese when he has not taken a wrong step so far seems wrong. Questions and debate are natural, but we are never holding all the facts and so should at least try to keep part of our minds open.

For now I will happily be singing 'Pochettinho's red and white army'.

My only real hope is that Nigel finds a suitable club quickly and continues to be everything he is.

 

The last thing Nigel will want on Monday is a "Pity Party" He leaves St Mary's walking tall with a fantastic record of achievement over the past 3 years. He will be snapped up by a Club that recognises a manager who manages as opposed to a "face" to wheel out for the cameras once a week.

The real casualties apart from the fans are the players. Their morale must be on the floor. Get behind them on Monday night, give them the 12th man. Nigel always said how important the fans were. Lets do it for Nigel.

Anything we achieve this season will be down to him anyway.

 

so just 18 days into the new year and Saints have already broken off their Adkins diet. Shameful!

Whoever doesn't sing "There's only one Nigel Adkins" I will be disgusted at. Even if not in a way to moan at Cortese or Pochettino, just to show our respect to one of the greatest managers ever to grace Southampton F.C.
