According to SSN. Three and half year deal, just in principle though... Sky Sports News ‏@SkySportsNews Theo Walcott has ended speculation over his future by agreeing a new three-and-a-half year deal with Arsenal #SSN
I agree, I'd rather it was longer, but it's better than nothing at all. With a 3 1/2 year contract, we'll have to start negotiating again Summer 2014, or sell him then.
According to the BBC Arsenal wanted a 5 year deal but Walcott only wanted 3 1/2 years but a compromise has been reached http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21078962
He hasn't signed yet, but everything is agreed. Just dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Apparently.
Do you think he is good value at £100k a week? You won't be able to sell him now because I can't see anyone else paying that.
It depends on what he achieves in the next few years. If he does well I can see teams paying £100k per week.
www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21078962 3 1/2 years @ 100k. Arsenal got absolutely spanked on that one. Credit to Theo - it's a short deal, forcing renegotiation or sale in 18months, and it's far more than he's worth. If Arsenal is meant to be a business rather than a football club, why are they so bad at asset negotiation? This is a terrible deal on all fronts.
Love it... the guy resorts to extortion the instance he becomes mildly important in the worst squad we've had in decades, the club delay it as much as they can trying to get a better deal with fans shouting down their neck... and when they do eventually cave in they all go "it's a terrible deal". No **** it's a terrible deal, that's why they didn't agree for so long.
Though to be fair, if we'd have had this discussion 18 months ago it would read the opposite way round.
There doesn't seem to have been any negotiation, isn't £100k what he was asking for right from the start?
Bend over Arsenal! Here comes the Theo Train!! Choo-Choo-ing *ALL* the way to the Bank. The fans are used to players shafting the Club, but usually they leave when they do it. This is the first time I've seen the Club be shafted by a player who's staying!! Well played Theo, well played!! Wenger, you've gone another rung down on the ladder, another fine fiasco.
I doubt you were saying the club should let him go if he doesn't come down to a more reasonable amount, like I did. For some of you every outcome is an opportunity to fault the club even if they do what you want. The players are always right. A sub for 7 years and he gets starts in the worst forward line we've had in 2 decades, and this is the result.
