    Sorry to be ignorant but I didn't realise 10 of them died.
    **** me, the only name we ever heard mentioned at school over here was Bobby Sands. Why was that? Was Bobby the first or something?

    left to die? ther was plenty of chocolate and he used to waste it by pasting his walls with it. the man was deranged

    He was the first to die, and was elected as an MP to Westminster. he kept a diary of his hunger strike and was a fantastic poet and songwriter.

    kieran Doherty was also elected as a TD in the Dail, but it made a significant splash that Maggie would allow the death of a serving MP

    I suppose it goes to show how little people cared over here when I had only heard of Bobby.

    I'm not for or against any side on this because I honestly know way too little to make that decision but I do have a question. If he was on a hunger strike, how can you say the British left him to die? Surely by refusing to eat he caused his own death.
