That's all that Sherringham had really, the knack of being in the right place at the right time, no pace but an eye for goal. Got to be worth a punt.

  2. He had a fair bit more than that Deedub, although I grant you speed was not his primary asset!! His overall positional play - both for himself and teammates - was quite exceptional and his eye for a quick short pass in the box was pretty impressive.

Teddy Sheringham was at our training ground the other day watching our under 21 game. He spent most of the time in conversation with David Pleat.

That is all teddy had???? One of the classiest, most intelligent players I've had the fortune to watch. He had so much more than just being in the right place at the right time. The fact he was so successful with such a chronic lack of pace just highlights how good he was.

The ball has pace, if you put in the right places, it does the work. Not enough of the Sheringham type players in football, sadly.

    That's the problem these days.
Clubs are looking for a speedy player with goalscoring ability.
Seems that brains and skill are not required anymore.
    Any takers?

Klinsmann said Sheringham was the best Strike partner he had ever played with, for his intelligent play and positioning

Think he's a decent play mate, wouldn't say no if he was available at the right price. Always a risk on taking a punts on these sorts of players that have come up through lower leagues (Beckford, Nugent etc) but with the right coaching and game time there's always a chance they'll become a hit and then seem an absolute bargain.

Heck, Sheringham made Chris Armstrong a lethal poacher.

I forgot about him. Remember how long it took for his first goal? Bloody ages. Then when he finally got one i thought "oooh, here we go, he'll be banging them in now". Never really happened though.
    Jeez he was quick though.

Didn't Armstrong have one really good season with us and then fail badly after that?

This sort of thing is only too common - it's called 'luck' and it's why it's so difficult to sort out the good players from the average one. Demba Ba may be in the top 5 strikers in the world or he may be outside the top 100. Recent form suggests the former is a possibility while we will have to wait his whole career to see if the latter is true.

Bad luck happens too: Bale is a good example. Many Spurs fans thought he was rubbish when he first came back from injury.

Amazing to think there was once the "curse of Gareth bale" and we had that spell where he was always on the losing side. - how things have changed!

Posted that on the 15th. Three days later the Metro catches up:
    http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/18/tottenham-line-up-bid-to-scupper-qprs-pursuit-of-yann-mvila-3357627/?
"Tottenham are lining up a bid for Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila".
"Villas-Boas meanwhile is also thought to be interested in West Ham’s Mohamed Diame".
    Sloooooooooow journalism.

There's been nothing for days mate. I'm just getting myself prepared for another painful window, where on Feb 1st we're all concerned about poor activity once again and fearing finishing lower than 4th! <yikes>

I've only skim-read the papers today but apparently he was a massive drugs cheat. What's the opposite of a placebo?

I think it's quite a good sign that the club seems to have virtually no leaks of transfer information at the moment.
The only problem is if we're not actually looking to sign anyone, so there's nothing to leak! <laugh>
