Yesterday the covers went on the pitch for protection against the frost and and cold weather. Today there is an update on the OS saying pitch currently playable and tomorrow they will remove the covers to allow the pitch to breathe and then cover the pitch again until the game. However there is an expected big snowfall on friday in Bristol..... 'worse-case scenario for Bristol is more than six hours of moderate to heavy snow with significant windchill and atrocious conditions' (http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Bristol-bracing-snow-Friday/story-17871463-detail/story.html). The pitch may be ok and playable but I doubt the local area will be and they usually postpone games on H&S reasons due to it being unsafe in the surrounding area. I cant see the game going ahead myself but I hope im wrong.
The trouble with ice and snow is that it makes the terraces dangerous. The pitch may be fine, but the club won't risk the inevitable broken limbs when people attend the game.
shame, we needed a game to follow up the big win last saturday and what a bumper corwd we would get too after tonights decision and it being a derby game.
i think it will be on........if you read it says they have had grit to be put down on the terraces where needed............if we do get a lot of snow the ground wont become frozen.......and i think there will be a call to arms to help get the ground fit
i did see that yes but the grit is for the terraces and car park. police will deem the local streets too unsafe. im sure the pitch and premises will be fine its the surrounding area that will be the issue i hope your right though
the surrounding area is the issue as i said yesterday but just read on evil post in the hitchcock article... A significant amount of snow is predicted to fall in Bristol on Friday and the club has already procured a large supply of grit and salt to clear the car park and surrounding areas to increase the chances of getting the game on. http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/loan...-longer-stay/story-17872432-detail/story.html if this is correct then great news
It's really important that the Club makes every effort to get this game played on Saturday. The euphora following the acceptance of the planning application will ensure a massive buzz around the ground and it would be a real shame if it that couldn't happen. Our club needs a bit of a boost, so make sure it happens please.
There's no way this game will go ahead so I'm not going to bother with a match thread. So it will be another mid week game to look forward to.
club seems to think different and asking for the mem to be filled.... http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/fill-the-mem-604758.aspx
I hope it is on as I don't have to work on Saturday and it will be very interesting to see how many turn up.
We have had a couple of inches of snow on the Severn Estuary south of Bristol. There is a slow thaw in progress, but the sky looks very heavy passing North East. The temperature forecast for tomorrow is about 4C so a thaw should continue. I reckon the biggest threat to the match will be the PC attitude towards the compressed snow on pedestrian areas around the ground. We live in hope!
