Makes me really sad, he was a bit of an idol to me when I was a kid, to see it was all cheating is horrible
The sad thing is we will never know if the no good cheating lying yankee twat was any good. I suspect that he could have been a winner unaided
I suspect you are bang-on here .. no amount of drugs could've converted a complete sow's ear into a silk purse ... The bit that really irritates me is that it is being thrown out there that if he names and shames senior cycling body officials that colluded in the overall druggy culture this might affect cycling's future as an olympic sport - seems to me that this is defensive scaremongering amongst those officials that were involved - why the hell should it affect the sport's status???? - if it does then the olympics could well be reduced to tiddlywinks, synchronised jenga and Just Dance 3 by 2016!!!
Seems to me he was levelling the playing field, everyone knows that cycling has a drug culture and when pretty much everyone was on them, he was still the best. Not condoning what he did at all, cheaters are cheaters, but that is a sport which is full of them.
Fair points all round ... he may have started out with that at the front of his mind, as you say, but in hindsight he would probably have been better off simply exposing the whole corrupt mess before joining it ... and certainly before he started to deny the accusations ... was bound to have come out at some point as far as I can see..
Whether or not he was on drugs, the guy managed to fight off cancer and still compete at the highest level, can appreciate him for that at least.
Agreed - the biggest human tragedy here is the fall from grace for somebody who should have remained an inspiration to millions ...
The problem with armstrong is that they were all doping, he was just the best of the ones taking the drugs. Wrong, yes. But the people who didnt win are also wrong.
