In any team you always need a few elder statesmen, we have those in players like Carragher, Steven, Reina, GlenJ, Aggs & Skrts. They're the steady hands and level heads when the youth start to lose it. Until these players leave or retire then the policy seems sound. But, as Dtothepowerof6 says, we need to be buying top class young players if we're sticking to that policy, not the merely adequate or good.
Each and every player will view their and their club's situation from their own perspective - that's just natural. However, it is still possible for senior players to make informed statements that they believe are in the best interests of the side. So to answer your question then I do not believe that Gerrard's statement would was purely from the basis of self-interest. Perhaps both existing and former Everton senior players have not had that capacity?
Theyve also lowered the wage bill, by £35m A YEAR, they havnt spent one penny of there own money, just like the last clowns
Other than Xabi, I think they would can't see any of those other than Xabi wanting to Liverpool though. And that would be for sentiment. We're not a CL side.
Neither have they had the response from the team on the pitch which would encourage a more liberal spending response! If it were YOUR money that was being spent you'd have a far more careful spending plan.
The only set of accounts that have been published under their ownership so far, was last May, & that showed the wage bill had INCREASED by £13M over the previous year. Ok they cleared out some deadwood last summer, but I very much doubt this amounted to £48M a year in savings. EDIT: why do you expect them to spunk their own money on it for 'love' btw? Oh & you do realise they gave LFC a £30M interest free loan don't you???
Agreed In case people have forgetten, the owners spent around £80m+ trying to improve this squad. Unfortunately, it wasn't spent wisely.
Who employed everyone responsible for transfers in the last 2 yrs.FSG.The majority of fans who go the game all agree with me that they are clueless And as I said they havnt spent 1p of there own cash, ive put more money into LFC the last 2 yrs than they have Like I say the fans at the stadium agree with me
The LFC boardroom said Kenny had to finish 4th in his first full season and that winning trophies or not made no difference to his sacking. then the contradict by sayin The LFC boardroom now tells us there's no rush, we're building for the future The LFC board tell us we can compete with anyone for transfers. The LFC board tell us we got £12m Sturridge by not spending £6m on Dempsey FSG are full of spin, lies and contradictations
4D, you have your view but please do not claim support that you do not have nor even proof that such support may exist.
Whether it has been mentioned or not, I do find it funny how Gerrard said we can't soley rely on the youth policy and then Ayre comes out with yes we can.
True Dave, I have to sit on the fence on this as I can see both sides. I will say though that I think we have a nice young crop. I do say it is time to have a look at maybe 1-2 tops of some experience players. YOu think about all the youngsters who have already come trhough : Kelly, Wisdom, Shelvey, Suso, Sterling, Robinson, Yesil. You still have Mclaughlin, Ibe, Teixeira looking to break through with others. I think a few experience buys would not go amiss.
The worrying thing for me is that Ayre says that had the Dempsey deal gone ahead, then we wouldn't have signed Sturridge. Sorry, but haven't the owners and Ayre constantly talked about having the finances to compete with anyone, especially when it comes to young talent? It sort of contradicts everything they say. Not only do we need some experience on the pitch, it's clear that we need experience at the top level of this club. Inexperienced owners and an inexperienced MD. Director of Football, Sporting Director - whatever you want to call them, there needs to be one at this club.
Which is exactly whai I said yesterday. The owners/managing director/manager are all inexperienced. The only constant is the academy. We need someone with a 'vision' for the club that last so that when the owners/manager move on the next ones have to fit the club and not the other way around.
JS, I think that what Ayre was trying to say was that if they had secured Dempsey then they would not have pursued thrit interest in Sturridge - not that they couldn't have afforded it.
I'm not arguing about bringing in experience to augment the youth that we have. In fact I'd probably pay more than most if it were a top class player.
I agree with you Dave, just expressing my thoughts on the subject and how we have a good pipeline now that we should probably look for that top class player. I mean M'Vila and Remy went to QPR who are dead last!!!
But I ask the question - if these two were so good, why haven't anyone else come in for them? That's what makes me doubt them... The same could be applied to Sneijder - no doubt he's a top quality player (or at least was!) but there must be something that is putting teams off. Costs, wages, attitude, injuries, fading ability/
Sorry Bluff, I didn't mean to sound contentious - honest. M'Villa and Remy thing sounds like a real money grabbing deal. I'm glad we weren't involved with either of those 2. However, I tend to agree with Gerrard we do need a couple of world class seniors.
