Whilst posting my usual rubbish on the shuffle your I pod thread I was reminded of a charming nursery rhyme I once heard as a child sung by a man called Wally Whyton. I can't find any link to a performance unfortunately : Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a thief; Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of beef; I went to Taffy's house, Taffy wasn't in; I jumped upon his Sunday hat and poked it with a pin. Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a sham; Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of lamb; I went to Taffy's house, Taffy was away, I stuffed his socks with sawdust and filled his shoes with clay. Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a cheat, Taffy came to my house, and stole a piece of meat; I went to Taffy's house, Taffy was not there, I hung his coat and trousers to roast before a fire Has anyone else got examples of blatantly xenophobic, racist ior sexist songs that were written for kids back in the day?
Ring-a-ring o' roses, A pocket full of posies, A-tishoo! A-tishoo A man abducted me in wales and said he didn't kill me but he did cause my death.

Not a nursey rhyme but when I was at primary we collected for SCIAF and the collection was called "Money for the Black Babies"... ****in catholics eh!
our primary school used to give money to a wee black guy in africa for him to go to school etc and he would send us letters to update us on his life etc etc. Anyway, one day we got the sad news. He was ran over on his way to school and killed. Some wee belter shouted, "what a waste of money"
