eh? you're the one who just sidestepped my question! where have i sidestepped your question? you haven't even asked me one!!
Lifetime ban should be enough of a deterrent in all fairness. It would be pretty unfair, I am not a season ticket holder or anyone else in my direct family because we live elsewhere, we enjoy a drink responsibly, yet we wouldn't be able to get alcohol but other people could. Wouldn't work.
yeah, that's a no-goer. either everyone (except kids of course!) is allowed to drink while watching or no one is.
Yeah, I thought it might be a non-starter. Perhaps extending it to a lifetime ban from all league, cup and international matches at all UK stadia would be a really strong deterrent, and might make people think twice. A lifetime ban at a single club doesn't really seem enough to stop some people.
I agree with that, if it could be done. Not sure if it happens now but if an Away fan warrants a lifetime ban from the stadium they misbehave, perhaps they get banned from the team they support instead.
One minute you are extolling the virtues of standing and drinking, and the next you make a statement that you don't think drinking will ever be allowed and possibly banned altogether. You really are in a minority. Most people want to sit, enjoy the game in comfort and not have to endure piss heads around them. That's my last word on this, you will be glad to know.
that's not true. read what i said. i have always been in favour of standing. i am in favour of drinking while watching IF all-seater stadia stay for good. i also explained that although i'd like drinking to return to all-seater stadia, i don't believe this will ever happen. don't try to put words into my mouth, thanks.
That was partially behind my thinking. There's no point banning a Luton fan (for example), from Carrow Road, because the chances they'll feel the ban are tiny.
Why do some people automatically assume that because some people might like to enjoy a drink during the game that they are pissheads! FFS Grow up and get real. The suggestion is only to allow civilised drinking while watching a game of football and not a drunken free for all. Given that we now live in a country run by health & safety facists I'm really surprised that coins and lighters are not banned from all football stadiums!
warky, you are absolutely right. as i said earlier, it is the same with standing. people automatically assume you are a hooligan if you want to stand at the football or you're happy to allow people to die in football stadiums.
I agree that you should be able to drink at seats ffs, just not at the moment. But some people will get too leary and probably do something which with the current focus on fans behaviour would get it banned again. You're getting the wrong end of the stick, a minority could easily ruin it for the majority at the moment.
YL I just believe in freedom of choice and not just banning things all the time! This suggestion from Cleggy is a perfectly reasonable one and at least should be trialled before a complete lifting of the ban comes in!
That's easy for you to say Warky, with your attendances your lot could only manage a minor fracas you'll need a few more for the rioting to start. I agree with what you say though. Bah!
Fair play to them for once. I don't think it's a bad idea people get absolutely hammered in pubs before games anyway, I don't see what people are going to do in 90 minutes, if anything people will be more relaxed and be a lot more chilled out knowing they don't need to smash down booze before the game.
Fully agree Walky Why should you have to neck the drink before you go to the seat people spend hours in pubs before the matches surely that is the problem
They'll be people getting up and down, getting rounds, having a piss, bringing 3 back spilling them everywhere. Even if you could only buy at half time, what happens when we score, everyone knows what will happen to the drink, got nothing to do with health and safety. It would be nice to just sit down and drink, but I'm quite happy to wait the eternity that is 3/4 of an hour until half time. There is nothing worse than a piss head at the football shouting rubbish and thinking he's funny. Its just not worth the hassle.
Having lived in other countries and seen the way the treat the consumpton of alcohol at sporting events, I genuinely beieve it is the type of people Brits are that make the thought of alcohol during the games so appalling. The minorities get the most publicity and most government law changes and I do fear that the minority who couldn't just have the odd pint during a game without it being a symbol of machismo or affiliation would eventually ruin what is now a pleasant experienceof going to a football match. And to be quite honest, the thought of a decent pint served in a silicon implant turns me off a bit. The only advanage I could see is that it would stop the half time rush when if you have youngsters with you makes it impossible to even contemplate getting up for a drink. Carrow Road is better than most but some clubs still herd you arund a holein the wall at the back of the tand and charge twice the price.
