So, Pep wants a challenge in England. In light of the 'bring back Rafa' thread I have one question: if we could get Pep, should we take Pep over Bucky or Mr Silver Service?

I can only see him going to Manchester tbh, which one is open for debate though. I think he is sensible enough not to go anywhere near Chelsea though.

FSG wouldn't go near him. We couldn't afford him.

Yeah I know, i was thinking hypothetically more than anything. Surely it would be City though since he's looking for a job now and Ferguson's still not planning on being put out to grass. Mourinho then in at Utd in a couple of seasons?

I think there are only two English clubs who suit him. Manchester City and Arsenal.

I feel almost certain he would not succeed at Chelsea. United he would need time to introduce a new style.

He would do well with our academy etc, but it would take time. He will require massive wages and I don't think he could make our average team start performing in the next couple of years.

    true TB,

but he could mean in this country he is as unproven.

i know every one goes on about his record but he has achieved that in Spain not the uk, which is a big deal to some owners as it is a gamble if he will succeed in this country, and how much time to build a team will he need.

It's not a question of money. It is however a question of experience. Guardiola has been very successful with a particular club in a particular set of circumstances. That does not offer any form of guarantee that such success would be replicated at another club.

    Really?

So Pep just turned up & read the paper did he?

He didn't change the style of Barca's play to be not just 'tippy tappy' but to include rapid closing down of the opposition, high defensive line & to play with a high tempo in the final third? None of that was him then???

He did a great job at Barca, yes, he had the advantage of a fantastic squad, but to dismiss his achievment in that flippant manner is very foolish.

Barca are better this year and pepe aint there<ok>

Its one thing being so embedded in a club for years and carrying on the work already done by the previous manager who left you an awesome squad of players, sure when Rafa won the CL all the same tards said oh that was houliers team. Just to discredit Rafa now they say opposite regarding Pepe<laugh> Barca were already a hard working team closing down ect but the real truth is they keep the ball, that's their main defensive attribute

Pepe has a lot to prove but he's had the balls to move out of his comfort zone unlike another successful manager<whistle>

  16. I genuinely do not get the raving about him. Yes he won a lot and broke record etc at a very good club but it is widely agreed that the team is also the best there has ever been. He didn't exactly have to do much when he took over and the basic same eleven played more or less every week too!

Obviously he has something about him but until he goes somewhere else and achieves something I will remain skeptical <ok>

Guardiola with Barca reminds me a bit of us with Dalglish the first time around.

Star player in a great team. Takes over that team as manager already knowing the system, the style, the tactics and what makes the players tick, and also has the players respect.

He then needed a break. But when he returned from that break he never matched that same level of success apart from one title with a rich Blackburn where he could spend spend spend.

Guardiola is at the break stage. We dont know what direction he will go in next.

A tradesman is only as good as his tools, Pepe has some really excellent tools to work with.

I honestly think the current Barca would win something without a manager at all<ok>

I think Guardiola would be a risky appointment - he did have the benefit of working with some of the best footballers in the world, at a club he was born to be with.

However, Barca were in decline in the latter years of Rijkaard's reign, In came Pep and he broke records. Completely transformed Barca and took them to new heights.

I think he'll probably go to Man City as they brought in a few high level ex Barca people, which indicates that Man City are creating the environment and structure to suit Pep.
