A centre-half, two wing-backs and four midfielders! They're not bad players, but they're not goalscorers either! I don't care what anybody says about Jay Simpson either, as he's ****. Proschwitz still hasn't gelled with the rest of the squad and Fryatt's injured. It ain't looking good.
I'll agree with you on one thing. I've always backed Simpson and said he should get a run in the side, his hold up play is top notch... but right now he cant dream of hitting the target. Other than that, Meyler has got a fair few goals since coming in. We have a decent enough defence, all it takes is one goal to win a game if we can keep a clean sheet (with a new keeper)
Agreed. I wanted 1 Striker to be up front with Aluko. With Aluko out 6-8 weeks we now need 2 Strikers. This wont sink our season but it will make Automatic spots far harder to achieve.
tendon injuries are difficult to recover from and can often re-occur. There is very little blood supply
The likes of Meyler getting a goal here and there isn't going to get us up, and our defence is a shambles at times (as evidenced on Saturday, when a team with twelve goals in thirteen away games deservedly put three past us). Let's take Saturday's game: most teams would look at the likes of Peterborough, Bristol City, etc as a chance to fill their boots and improve their goal-difference. If we even win, chances are it'll be one or two-nil, maybe two-one. We'll probably be matched by one of the worst teams in the league, and all of our glass-half-full supporters will harp on about how it's the sign of a great team to win when you haven't played so well. Then when we next face a half-decent opponent we'll get trounced, just as happened at Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Leicester.
I went to both the Boro and Leicester away games, and they weren't good. IF Big Nick's great header hadn't been brilliantly cleared off the line by I think Konchesky at the KP, we would have drawn 2-2, unfortunately they countered and won 3-1. Boro was a shambles, most of the team were dreadful and Amos shipped two horror goals in, ableit making a few good saves. I'd like to be optimistic and say we'll still be ok. We have a manager that knows what he's doing, and will strengthen with the right players.
Winning at the end of the day is all that counts. Playing well is just an added bonus, but it won't get you promoted. I don't think anybody's being naive here and saying we don't need another striker & keeper, but since we did well in some tough games before, when Aluko was out, it's not all doom and gloom.
Agree, I'm not actually sure how we're in second at the minute, we're not **** but were a long way from great. We put in a 'promotion worthy' performance maybe once every four or five games, and we've only played well once vs other top 6 contenders against Watford. I've already given up on autos now the smurfs have signed wood. I feel we're worthy of making the playoffs but won't make it to the final.
You could also say that if we'd taken our chances too we'd have comfortably won that game 4/5-2. The better side won on the day. I think you'll sign a striker and be fine after that. I also think that the time spent pissing about getting one might cost you. I don't think we'd give up an auto spot should we get there.
Our form when Aluko was injured in December: P4 W4 D0 L0 GS8 Our form since he came back: P4 W1 D2 L1 GS3 The only good team we played in that second spell was Leicester, whereas 3 of the 4 in the first spell were play-off chasers. He's a talented lad, but he's hardly contributed anything in ages (maybe to do with his niggling achilles injury) but there's absolutely no way you can say he's more responsible for our league position than anyone else. Both of those things are wrong. But we've got more points than you. We already can't buy a goal. Aluko hasn't scored, assisted or anything since mid-November. You're right. We needed a striker anyway and we still do. All this does is remove the temtpation to play a player completely out of form in the hope that he might come good and allow us to focus on people like Prossy who are playing well.
My God, I'm agreeing with Bum Chinned Crab again!! That's twice this year!! Nurse? Nurse? More medication please!
I'm starting to think you're actually Karl Pilkington, moaning about everything and just giving up. Let's see how things go before we start to panic. - We might have a new keeper and a prolific striker before or just after Saturday. Maybe a loanee striker in addition to cover Aluko's absence. - Although we've not been great in a lot of our games, we've grinded out results on many of those occasions and are second on merit. We've controlled nearly every one of them comfortably. - Aluko will be back for the final push when we might need a fresh face to enter the fray. - Wood's form might be temporary. Leicester have some difficult fixtures approaching. - We'll be looking to bounce back after Sheff Weds and the lads should be fired up.

Do you think you rushed him back? Could be a good thing for you as it could force your owners to open the cheque book even more
Am I the only one who pays no attention whatsoever to who actually makes the post? I never read who they are from and thus take each post on its own merit without prejudice. The only time Ive ever noticed who directly posted something is when it's someone criticising me for having my own opinion and not agreeing with them, so invariabley OLM.
Fingers crossed indeed but if the worst comes comes to the worst at least he didn't cost us the earth. Having said that I feel it in my water that he will come through this okay with a bit of TLC.
No need for all this pessimism - injuries are part n parcel of the game. Especially this time of year - heavy pitches, fixtures coming thick n fast, etc.
Your welcome to have your own opinion, but when your opinion is bullshit, expect it to get criticised.
