Just for clarification, Wenger was not saying that teams had been relegated, but gone down in terms of performance.

It has, I just thought somebody might jump on it thinking he meant relegation for every club who had built a new stadium.

The statement that we had 'restricted finances' should be as clear a bell really to anybody who has followed Arsenal, but the amount of effort some people put convincing themselves it was an excuse so that they could bash Wenger was staggering.

Wenger is saying that as a direct result of that financial prudence, we are now in a position where we can 'Spend big'

Coventry are skint because they don't own the Ricoh and they have to give all the gate reciepts to the owners (i think it's Coventry council) as rent.

It would appear that Liverpool are now looking to re-develope Anfield because of the cost of building a new stadium.I think it's fair to say Spurs were looking to move into the Olympic stadium because of the cost of building a new stadium

I'm a big fan of redeveloping grounds if it can be done. Highbury was too small to ever realistically be an option. Emirates though is a great stadium and it's credit to the club that they were able to do it. £400m was a unbelievable amount of cash to raise and I think it's real key moment in our history that we were able to do it.

People whinge about the 7 years of no trophy, but in the grand scheme of things, the move and our performance as a club since has been admirable. We've changed stadium, squad, the whole board, and we've been paying our debt whilst securing top 4 football and champions league. If we can now turn our profits back into the squad in a meaningful way, and compete with the best in Europe as the move was designed to do, then it will be a real justification of the route we took.

What is M'Vila doing signing for a horrid little club like QPR? I suppose my view of them is enhanced with the love-in between the media and HR. Hope they are relegated!

Its time to walk the walk Arsene. Spend big, or face the consequences when we dont finish top 4 at years' end.

Top priority is a DM (M'Villa anyone?), followed closely by a CAM if Rosicky is going to indeed be frozen out of the team...

“We are working very hard. First of all we want to sort out the injuries we have, and we are trying very hard to close the deal with (Theo) Walcott.

“Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else. At the moment I cannot tell you more.”

    - So Wenger is saying he wont spend until he sorts out the Walcott deal?..Well that's thoroughly ******ed.

M'Vila has almost signed for QPR and Rosicky is injured, not frozen out.

What makes you so certain that we won't finish in the Top 4 ?

People were saying the same thing this time last year - and we finished Third.

You just couldn't make it up could you? I'd quite like to see a timeline of Wengers quotes during the Transfer Window. It's always more towards "we will buy" after a defeat, then "we are not close to buying anyone" before the next game.

Yesterday was "we are ready to spend big," today it's "injuries, then Theo, then we'll buy."

What do injuries have to do with transfers!? The only injuries are Rosicky who is out of favour, Fabianski who doesn't matter, and Arteta, and we all know a DM is needed. So overall they're completely irrelevant. What if Theo doesn't sign before the end of January?! Does that mean no new players?

    Captain Backtrack at his finest.

Well it is no longer seen as a disaster, it would be seen as a huge success if you finished third this season? or even in top 4 which would be a big ask as I think Spurs are a good bet

    It's insaine.

This is what drives me crazy about Wenger. Constant contradiction.

If we miss out on strengthening the squad because we cant sort out ONE players contract situation. That will just show what a shambles we are.

This club used to be soo well run and organised. What the hell happened?

Looking at it without my Arsenal glasses on i have to admit spuds look like a better team than us at the moment.

Will be difficult to get top players in the summer if we finish 5th or lower...

He's asked questions and he answers them. The answer can depend on the phrasing of the question.

Articles rarely include the question in there. What to you might seem a contradiction, could just be a 'loaded' question vs. straightforward question.

No every transfer window we get MASSIVE amounts of contradiction.

"He IS going to sign a defender" "We will only sign exceptional players" "The squad is strong enough" "...is like a new signing" - all the usual cliches.

Now I'm not asking Wenger to tell the media his transfer plans but DONT tell us 'there's money available/he intends on adding players' etc..if its not true.

I don't think this is true. There aren't many fans who see 3rd, 4th with no trophy as anything to boast about at all.
