Anybody else want Vertonghen to start at left back again? I can't help thinking it will open up space in the center and on the right. Maybe Walker and Caulker at CB. Chances of one of them scoring on a set piece are decent.
I don't want Dawson to start, that's for sure. If we have to man the barricades for the last ten minutes, he's the type of defender you need, but his overuse of hoofball is more likely to hand possession back than allow us to put them under pressure.
You sure you meant Walker at centre back? I'd have Vertonghen back at fullback if Benny can't start, actually I'd probably have him anyway as I don't expect Benny to be sharp enough to play against United straight away. I'd go with: Lloris Walker Dawson Caulker Vertonghen Parker Dembele Lennon Dempsey Bale Defoe
I was just discussing it on the Bill Nich thread with SC, Roo. It's true. One of his mates, who seems like a bit of a ****bag, confirmed it on his twitter feed. "Aggro Santos ‏@aggrosantos Praying for my boy @sandroraniere undergoing knee surgery today. Gods grace everything will be ok bro. Eh nois #COYS" It's his confirmed, official one and he's been in videos with Sandro, so he would know. SC confirmed it, too.
Ahh cheers mate, hadn't looked at the bill nick. Gutted. We should be pushing for holtby now. Although not defensive, he's another quality midfield option.we could move dembele alongside Parker and let holtby play in the middle with bale and Lennon on the outside. Quality options are key for us now, IMO.
I'm surprised so many see the Cup game for Utd as an issue. SAF is bound to rotate his squad and it's an ideal time to play those at various stages of recovery from injuries- Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Jones, Kagawa & Smalling. If Rooney is to play any part on Sunday, then he will only benefit from the chance to play competitively. Players like Buttner, Scholes, Giggs, Powell, Fletcher (if fit) & Hernandez, who haven't had too many minutes on the pitch recently, can come in to enable key players to be rested.
I expect you to make changes but too many changes and you risk losing and not making changes will tire out more of your players. I'd be surprised if RVP isn't called upon to help you out again and anyothers who are in SAF's plans for Sunday that plays is a bonus for us. It can only be positive for us.
Oh damn... From Twitter: "Apparently Sandro has broken his anterior cruciate ligament bone. Out for a year or less. Different bones different times"
If thats accurate, thats a disaster for him and us. Btw... http://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/sandro-injury-update/
Looks like @aggrosantos has deleted that tweet. So either it was not true or Spurs/Sandro have asked him to take it down to not give too much away about our team news...
i've seen a couple of "up to 6months" tweets. - To be honest, anything longer than a few weeks is awful news. We're extremely lucky to have Scott Parker.
we also have Dembele,Livermore,Carroll, and Pritchard,if he was given a chance to show what he can do.
No. Brain malfunction. I meant Dawson of course, not Walker. It was a combination of Walker rhyming with Caulker, incipient senescence and maybe a few good times too many.
I'd always heard the phrase as "anterior cruciate ligament" (no bone involved), but if that's what it is, as the Tweet says, he'll be very lucky to be ready for next season. 2014 may be more like it. This almost has to be awful news. As long as Parker's healthy we can hope there'll be no drop off, but Sandro's been the heart of the team this year, and I shudder to think were we'll be if Parker gets hurt. I don't think Holtby is still an option for January, but if he is, by all means get him.
DL might also to be interested to learn that his theory that Utd will struggle as Rooney, Vidic & Young are injured is looking less convincing given that Rooney is fit, Vidic is fit and Young is back next week!
Its true though, Bale and Lennon will run riot yes but Dempsey seems out of form and we should be able to deal with him
