I suspect you're right. How a mediocre Prem team with an ageing first choice keeper could value his back-up at £3m just doesnt add up.

Link to article. Not sure whether I should be offended by the first paragraph or not.

Nah, I think he just means in the old days when we were bottom division we were the CM players club of choice to take over and guide through the leagues. My mate was at a World Cup with a City flag when we were bottom division had some Norwegians come up to him and say "We always play as Hull City on Championship Manager, big club!"

Sort of, any season long loan can only be ended without both clubs agreeing if it's either in a transfer window for the club sending the player out (with a clause), or to allow them to sell the player.

If Stockdale signed for us on loan til the end of the season Fulham would only be able to recall him during January (if they put a clause in) or if they were selling him to a foreign club who were in one of their transfer windows (eg MLS).

I'd rather get a permanent keeper in, How long has it been since we've had our own, regular decent 1st choice keeper? Stockdale would be good, Young, Decent keeper, But £3Million if true is far too much for someone other than a proven goalkeeper.

Price for Butland £4-6M being banded about, so if you look at it that way Stockdale must be £2M and upwards as a proven Prem keeper.
Don't forget this is the Jan window and as Duffen said its a sellers market.

Butland is very young though, whereas Stockdale is 27/28 I think, so the age potential will have put Butland's price tag to that ridiculous price. Look at Zaha, apparently going for £12million... He did not look like a £12million player at the KC but he's young and has potential.

Butland could end up like Amos, very young for a keeper and a big price tag.
As I said the price you pay in Jan is not the real value of any player really is it????
£3M does seem high but if we wanted Mannone I would put money on him being valued by Arsenal at around the same price at this stage of the season anyway.
Fulham arn't gonna come out and say give us £1.5M for Stockdale are they, even if thats what they would accept.
Just saying if we want a Prem level keeper we have to pay the going rate.

3 million is pretty ridiculous I doubt very much that we have any money left to get a striker if we pay that kind of money for him.

Or use some exceptional bartering skills to bring Fulham back to normality ;)

I can't see Jol being too concerned about Stockdale's price if we're the only ones in for him. The price tends to stay high when there's more than one Club expressing interest.

If we're going to pay 1.5m for Stockdale then I would rather pay 1m for Mannone

I can't see the Allam's forking out 3m for a keeper, this is just Jol or Stockdale's agent putting a figure out to see what reaction there is to it. We may well sign him, but I think it will be much less than this figure.

We really missed a chance when Arsenal offered us Mannone for £1million. That's looking more and more like a fair price.

I saw in the same paragraph as us & Stockdale, it said about Cardiff & Jerome, for me he would be a good loan choice at this level.

Wenger wanted that for Mannone, surely a better choice?

It's been obvious from the start craig, no one came infor Mannone because of,his wages. He'll be on 30 grand a week. Arsenals youngsters are on a good wage. Reckon vito will go back to Italy in the summer.

I got the impression the deal didn't happen because of the fee rather than his wages. Also I would have thought City had a good idea what his wages were from his time on loan, but we still went after him.
