It's all hands to the pumps at the moment. If Harry uses the newcomers effectively, and they are the difference between winning and drawing, surviving and relegation, then I don't expect there will be dressing room splits on salary issues...until the start of next season

Interesting, if probably unfairly harsh article on Remy from the qprdot.org site:

________________________________________________________________________________

Remy’s Heavy Baggage

OM striker, affected by problems off the pitch is slowly finding his best.

During the winter transfer window of 2012, OM sought at all costs to get rid of Andre-Pierre Gignac and rebuked the advances of Tottenham for Loic Remy, valued at 25 million euros. A year later, Gignac is first choice for the team says President Vincent Labrune, and is now ready to accept an offer of 10 million euros for Remy. Given the financial stakes, the Remy file is sensitive. Marseilles’ leaders want to sell him without delay. But so far, the player has refused Queens Park Rangers and is stalling with Newcastle. According to The Independent, Arsenal would be interested as he was regarded as the new Thierry Henry.

But Remy, 26, is a shadow of the thoroughbred striker who helped L’OM rise to the top for the last two seasons. He no longer plays or plays very little (two starts in L1, and 1 goal). When he is given a chance, he is unrecognisable. We often refer to the fact that he has been injured time and time again over the past ten months. The bitterness felt after not being selected for the Euros when he was considered to be part of the core of Laurent Blanc squad. You can see his lack of confidence following the success of Mathieu Valbuena and Gignac, who have become indispensable to the French national team. All this has undoubtedly compounded the situation. But the troubles are deeper.

A drunken night in Lyon
The most recent rumours describe a tormented boy, far from the image that he normally portrays. They say he has become elusive and disillusioned to the point of saying to his close relatives that he is ready to quit his career, which was almost forced upon him following a heart problem detected during his transfer from Nice to Marseille in 2010. If he had already had some ups and downs, it had never reached this point. His carefree approach during his summer vacation has annoyed his employers: he did not look after his thigh injury and quickly broke down. As the season has progressed his excesses have become more and more obvious and divulged in a town where nothing is kept secret. Between Christmas and New Year, he distinguished himself at the Sofitel Hotel in Lyon, where he had gone to celebrate his birthday in advance (he was born 2nd January) before resuming with OM by being drunk in the morning and created an incident in the establishment.

Wrong crowd? Dark side of fame? This change of attitude made people ask questions. Remy separated from his long-time agent. He withdrew and marginalised himself in the dressing room: even with Valbuena, who he had close ties with and now being quite distant.

“I’m not in touch with him every day, but I did not feel that he is someone who is losing the plot. He is someone very balanced” snapped his lawyer, Jose Allegrini.

Change of scenery to bounce back?
Coincidence? Over the past year, the attacker is mixed up with a dark story of paternity. A young woman with whom he had a relationship, says he is the father of her child, now aged 14 months. He denies it. His lawyer states that the maintenance claim is typical of a football gold-digger. The person concerned, Valentine, claims to have damning documents. The case has escalated but drags: the hearing has been adjourned until Spring.

In this context you would think that he might want a change of scenery. But he does not intend to let anyone dictate his destination. In Marseille, he earns 250,000 euros per month and his contract runs until 2015. During the training camp in Marrakech this week, he was sharp and motivated and played well in the match. Despite this, he knows he will be on the bench at Sochaux tonight and has been demoted in the hierarchy of strikers available for Elijah Baup. But Marseille’s coach has publicly supported him “Technically, he has not lost anything. Physically, he has regained full fitness. His behaviour has been spot on.”

I think we're all a bit nervous, Tram! We have to have faith that Harry and the Board will move forward with a survival and a relegation plan, so we are in good shape whichever occurs. It was inevitable that the Board wouldn't take the drop with just a whimper. I think they'll act prudently, particularly with the Mittals on the board. From now until the 19th May could be a white-knuckle ride!

Seems M'Bia is certain that Remy has signed for us. You'd think he would've told to shut up about player transfers till they are complete.

I don't think it's credible that Harold would have come without believing he had a decent chance of keeping us up and without the promise of a pot to spend if we weren't too far adrift by the window. When you appoint a gambler, there's no point not gambling.
Someone pointed out that if we get to 22 points by the time we play 28 games we are in the same position as last year with an easier run in. I think that's worth a generous punt.

Nice find TIMK, cheers <ok>

The ending doesn't sound so bad:
During the training camp in Marrakech this week, he was sharp and motivated and played well in the match. Despite this, he knows he will be on the bench at Sochaux tonight and has been demoted in the hierarchy of strikers available for Elijah Baup. But Marseille’s coach has publicly supported him “Technically, he has not lost anything. Physically, he has regained full fitness. His behaviour has been spot on.”

True story. When I saw Remy play for the first time, must have been 7-8 years ago when he broke through at Lyon. I immedietely picked up the phone and called my Arsenal mate and said "I've just seen the next Thierry Henry". He looked so similar it was uncanny. The burst of pace and dribbling ability was there. Something must have gone wrong somewhere though. Don't get me wrong, he's had a good career but never really taken that step up to the elite. There must have been a reason why he hasn't been picked up earlier???

In another comparison to Henry, a change of scenery might be just what he needs, imo he is perfectly suited to do well in the Prem. After Henry's breakthrough at the World Cup in 98 Juventus signed him for big money. In Italy he was mostly played on the wing out of position and never really settled. Arsene Wenger knowing Henry well from their time together at Monaco picked him up and played him as a striker and the rest is history. If we get Remy he must be our focal point up front and not put him on the wing where he will be wasted imo.

And has a very good get out clause, in case of regulation. Personally I think it's a good opportunity for anyone who is looking to get into the Premiership, put in a good clause into your contract in case of relegation and look at the rest of the season as a show case for your abilities.

Nicely argued Norway. If he bangs in goals for us between now and the end of the season and we stay up, he can call himself the new Henry or the new messiah I far as I'm concerned. <ok>

Will be a fantastic signing for you guys - and I really do hope you stay up. I grew up with QPR always in the top flight, and love teams that have had a dip returning and staying.

My only concern about this Remy deal (and this is purely me believing the media) is that he categorically said no to a move to QPR, until a 70k + wage packet was offered. If what is reported is true (might not be) then it shows what type of player he is - Greedy.

However, saying that if he keeps you up - then I guess that doesn't really matter.

Whatever happens - best of luck, I sincerely mean that.

This guy is usually very, very reliable so I'm getting hopeful this might actually go through. He also reckon's that M'Vila deal is at an advanced stage. If we get those two and add a couple of centre-backs it would be a fantastic transfer window.

As well you are entitled to Tramore. How many Fernandes transfer splurges is that now? Four?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I saw that as well and far from making me chirp up, it made me even more depressed. That position we were in last year was desperate and it was indeed miraculous we stayed up. Now we have to go on a mini run to even get to that level!

Dreadful stuff to contemplate.

Loic Remy denies snubbing QPR boss Harry Redknapp in France
QPR new-boy Loic Remy rubbishes claims he refused to speak to Harry Redknapp after the coach travelled to France to watch him

By Martin Caparrotta at Harlington
11:01pm UK, Friday 18 January 2013

Loic Remy has denied that he refused to speak to Harry Redknapp when the Queens Park Rangers manager travelled to France watch the forward ahead of his transfer to Loftus Road.

Redknapp had said that he “couldn’t even get a meeting” with the 26-year-old forward to discuss a potential move to west London after a Ligue 1 game earlier this month.
I was close to joining Tottenham, reveals QPR new-boy Loic Remy
But Remy, who joined QPR on Wednesday on a four-and-a-half year deal, insisted he simply delayed the meeting because he was thinking about his future and said it was in no way a lack of respect.
Remy said: “No, I didn’t refuse to speak to him [Redknapp], I was just thinking about my future at that time.
“I didn’t want to speak to him at that time was because I didn’t want him to then expect me to join the club.
“My agent explained that to him and then it was fine. I spoke to him afterwards and we went for a meal.
“It was in no way a lack of respect, far from it.
“This is someone who has followed me now for two-and-a-half years and given all of the attention he has shown in me over the last two years it would’ve been really bad manners on my part to have lacked respect.”
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes paid a visit to Remy’s house in an attempt to convince the France international to join the R’s.
And Remy says he was impressed by the QPR chief’s personal approach as the pair played Fifa and discussed his move to west London.
“As I said it’s not something I expected, to have the chairman come to my house. That will stay with me as one of my great memories in my career.
“We played Fifa but I don’t know if I should say who won, because he might get angry! We played two games and I won them both.”
Remy also insisted that the chance to move to the English capital did not have a major influence in his decision to snub a rival offer from Newcastle United.
He added: “To be honest, I considered a lot of factors when I made my decision here. It wasn’t simply a case of London being the motivation in coming here.
“I’ve heard Newcastle is up in the North and very cold but that’s not really relevant.
“It wasn’t the lifestyle of being in London that made my decision for me.”
Rock-bottom QPR face a huge battle in attempting to avoid the drop this season – but Remy believes the pressure of a relegation scrap can bring out the best in him.
“I think pressure can help, just like pressure for certain players can be something difficult to manage,” he said.
“Personally as a player I love pressure. If I didn’t feel any pressure it would be almost worrying because you might be too relaxed. I’m ready to go out there, fight hard and work my socks off.
“My main ability lies in the fact that I work really hard. I’m going to do everything I can to play well. I’m quick, good in the air and ultimately want to score goals.”
