The next major company to disappear? Only a matter of time. Must admit I'm finding it sad that so many institutions are going to the wall, not to mention the massive job losses. The only reason is the phenomenon that is on-line shopping and more and more city centres are going to be decimated.

An example of a local store in Aberdeen was Bruce Millers on Union Street. Fantastic local run shop that had been in Aberdeen for over a century. Great selection for all music tastes now lost forever. Shame.

Oh well, that's evolution for you, or not as the case may be.

You ever in it? It was a fantastic shop that catered for everyone. One-Up on Belmont Street is another where you can get out of the ordinary stuff but that will probably go to the wall as well.

    No, never.

Walked by it and remember the advert on Grampian.

Every time I went to see my family in Aberdeen as a child, any presents or the like would be taken home in a Bruce Miller's poly bag.

It's ****e. All these chains disappearing because ****s are too lazy to get off their fat arses and go to the shop instead of sitting in front of a computer downloading stuff.

Spent countless Saturdays as a kid venturing up to Oxford Street to go to HMV and the Virgin Megastore as well as the little speciality reord shops that seemed to have been on every turn off. Sad days indeed but not altogether surprising.
Give it time and you'll be able to do absolutely verything using the internet so there'll be no more shops or anything and everyone can just stay in doors and never interact with anyone apart form the van driver who delivers all your stuff. For an old misanthrope like me that does have its attractions but at the same time it's a very scary thought.

HMV ****ed it up for themselves. Wasn't downloads that killed them, it was completely missing the boat on online sales and delivery to door. Evolve or die.

In fairness, HMV were always cheaper than Tower and more expensive than Virgin for most stuff.

I always preferred Missing as my record shop of choice.

Recently, I've gone in the one in Braehead with the kids and it sells hardly any music anymore - half the shop was for docking stations and MP3 players.

Perhaps, but I was generalising and using HMV as an excuse to moan about lazy ****s downloading stuff.

You think it has something to do with being lazy? or being much easier, cheaper and sometimes even free'r (go **** yourself)

I generally, as a rule, don't buy things on the internet. Only because most things are free on the internet.

I do buy books, movies, and music online. I won't claim I don't have any 'stolen' music but very little of it.

Fuddy, on the other hand, rips off movies on a weekly basis. Which I watch. I like to think I can defend that because going to the cinema isn't something I do so I wouldn't see the movies anyways. There is rarely anything I want to see that I can't wait until it turns up on the telly.

There used to be a fantastic record store in Glasgow called Precinct13 I think, an absolute goldmine.

Oh and I 100% agree with ST laziness is the major factor. I like to see what I'm buying first hand, I mean they may send the wrong size of jock straps that I wear every day.

A land full of couch potatos ffs. The Aliens will be fizzing with us.
