I'd agree with that. Koren was very poor last night, But then again He's never going to shine against a physical side. There didnt seem to be alot of cohesion from anyone out there, and at times it looked like theyd never played with each other. Hope it was just an off night though.
Recently Meyler had been very vocal in midfield, but last night he flapped about and looked as headless as the rest of the team.
At one point they got a free kick when the ref didn't even give a foul. He stopped the game for a head injury and instead of restarting with a drop-ball he just gave them a free kick even though there wasn't a foul. Crazy but the City players were all looking bemused at him but not saying anything.
Koren is too quiet to be an effective skipper. He should not have allowed Simmo to take it, however I said while we were watching the argument "It doesn't matter who takes it we will miss" We just lost all our composure yesterday, everyone seemed in a panic, every free kick was taken quickly with no thought and every pass was under hit. Seems when the pressure is on we cracked. So back to the subject, we needed a skipper with a firm guiding hand. But I don't know who to suggest.....anyone?
Koren is a great captain. He is technically gifted, can produce a goal out of nothing and seems to be well liked by the players. I thought the point in letting Simpson take the penalty was for him to score and gain a bit of confidence in a match that was already lost by then.
That's it exactly, if he'd scored, it could have made all the difference in coming games. I think he will be very gutted that he missed it.
Maybe, maybe. But he didn't look like he had much faith in his ability to score....scuffed it and it went goalwards with no power (and no attempt to avoid the 'keeper).
The point being made was that Koren wanted to take the pen, asked Simpson for the ball twice, and was twice overruled by Simpson.
Twice Koren has missed 1 on 1 situations. Leeds & now this. It's all very frustrating to know that we are a very good side but lose the games that should be simple. As long as we get over it & bounce back that is the main thing.
We will, remember Peterborough @ home? Not only do we need revenge against Posh on Saturday, we need to get the Wendies game out of our system. Lets hope we give Peterborough a pasting and all will be forgotten
Completely agree. I went to the Rochdale pre-season game, he hadn't even signed for us, yet he was commanding the back 4 brilliantly. But it'd be a bit suspicious making the managers son a captain
I'm surprised Hobbs hasn't got the Captains armband now he's back, I've never been a fan of an attacking player as a Captain, I don't think they see the game in the same way from the front.
I've never understood why people say this. What does the captain need to see? He isn't making decisions or anything he just needs to be a leader and motivate people, there's nothing tactical about it. Do we actually have a club captain by the way? Since Ashbee we've had Dawson, Hobbs and Koren at different times but do we have an official club captain? I thought it was Hobbs but clearly as he's back in the team and not wearing the armband does that mean it's Koren now? I think this should be announced at the start of every season. I know it means nothing but it'd just be nice to know and it'd probably be nice for the player for everyone to know he is the captain and not just a stand-in or something.
The reason I say this is because a Captain has to make decisions, make sure the managers orders are carried out, a player at the back looks forward & sees much more than a player at the other end. Ultimately though there should be at least 3 or 4 players who are capable of leading the team, but 1 player should ultimately have control. Does Koren have that? It's hard to say, against Wednesday he, like a lot of others, didn't really look the part. Hopefully this is just a blip & the team will gat their arses kicked in training this week by SB & the other coaches & come out fighting, kicking on this season.
