Remy refuses to meet with Redknapp to speak about move to bottom club QPR

..Loic Remy refused to speak to Harry Redknapp when he flew to France last weekend in a bid to lure the striker to Queens Park Rangers.
Redknapp had hoped to convince Remy to join him at Loftus Road after Marseille’s win in a French Cup tie against Guingamp but suspects the club’s relegation problems put him off.
'He didn’t want to come,' said the Rangers boss. 'It doesn’t help when you’re bottom. Players will look at that and if there are other clubs in England after them, it can be difficult.

No go: Marseille's Loic Remy refused to speak to QPR over a move

'I went over to watch him, not that I needed to, I watched seven times when I was at Spurs. Then he just did not want to speak about coming. I couldn’t even get a meeting with him. I was hoping for a meeting to encourage him to come. He’s not playing there. He played in the cup last week but he’s not playing.
'It would have been good for him to come, play in the Premier League and help us stay up. If he comes and does well and the worst comes to the worst and we can’t survive, he’s in the shop window and the big clubs would want him. If he scores goals, there’s every chance we’d stay up. It was a good opportunity for him.
'He wasn’t being disrespectful by not talking but he was in a position where last year at Spurs he was interested and I got on well with him, and I think he felt embarrassed coming to see me to say he wasn’t interested in coming to QPR. He just felt he was in a position he found difficult to handle. I’ve no problems with him.'

Struggle to get players: Harry Redknapp could not get a meeting with Remy
Newcastle are interested in Remy and but QPR’s search for a striker has proved difficult. 'Who is going to let people go, unless you’re paying crazy money?” asked Redknapp before joking about hijacking Tottenham’s bid for Alvaro Negredo.
'We’re in the auction,' smiled Redknapp. 'One of them auctions where you make a bid but you don’t actually want to buy him? I’m starting the bidding with a million. When it gets up to 15, I might even try to push Daniel (Levy) to 16. If he doesn’t come back, we’re in trouble! I like Negredo but we haven’t got £15m, that’s for sure.'

Subtle and shrewd from a man not famed for either - make your sales pitch in public to try to get the message out there.

Less aimed at Remy, more aimed at future targets (with room for a u-turn by the Frenchman).

Shows we're getting desperate but also that we have the right man in charge.

That should be the end of it. We don't want players that need convincing. We need players who are hungry to join and if there are none then stick with what we have.

I like the way Harry is not bad mouthing anyone - unlike Clarke of WBA. Helps to keep options open.

Wouldn't it be funny if he went to Newcastle and they went down and we stayed up!

Marseille confirm deal agreed with Newcastle for striker Loic Remy

Marseille president Vincent Labrune has confirmed a deal has been agreed with Newcastle United for Loic Remy and the striker has been given permission to discuss a move to St James' Park.

Remy has been a target for several Premier League clubs and Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp confirmed he had failed with a bid for the France international.

It now appears that the 26-year-old is on his way to Newcastleafter an offer in excess of £10million was accepted by Marseille.
"We have an agreement with Newcastle for the transfer of Remy," Labrune is quoted by RMC. "Loic can negotiate with them."

Sky Sports understands Remy has been given permission to leave the team hotel where Marseille are staying ahead of Sunday evening's Ligue 1 game against Sochaux.
Earlier, former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, who has been a team-mate of Remy's at Marseille, wished the striker well.

Barton tweeted: "Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don't worry I've told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy."

Magpies manager Alan Pardew has been looking to strengthen his options in attack after star striker Demba Ba departed for Chelsea.
Although Ba's exit may prompt Pardew to field Papiss Cisse in his preferred central role, Remy's arrival will provide increased competition for places in a Newcastle squad struggling to repeat last season's achievements.

Remy could get the goals to steer them away from trouble.

    Cheers guys!

Not insightful, just got lucky - I thought we'd end up on 31st with Arry plying journos with tea while Rosie and Beard hammer out the fine details of eleventh hour deals. ;)

    Thanks Nines old buddy.

Interesting times - a lot rests on the next 17 days and Harry's ability to keep it going on the field while wheeling and dealing off it.

I'm fairly hopeful of our chances but what say you, the gauge of all things QPR?
