Plus all the teams that are in the CL right now wouldn't really need him. Chelsea has Oscar in his position, for whom they paid 24million, it would be foolish for him to join them when he is obviously more likely to play much more with us. City,United,Arsenal,Spurs...they all have players who play in his position. So it wouldn't really be a tough job to convince him to join us.
I know what you mean. But all we can offer him are promises. We promise that we'll get into the CL, we promise that we'll win the league etc etc. Problem is, do we have anything to present to such players that would suggest we are progressing? Previous league positions don't really help our cause. I think it would be extremely difficult to attract him IF there are other teams involved. Another problem is that teams like Chelsea, Man City and PSG may not neccessarily need the player, but they will want the best talents at their disposal. They will BUY first and then sell to free up space and balance the books - regardless of how FFP is implemented.
To get the players like Sneijder and that ilk, we have to throw some money at it. Throw some money on these players get into the top 4 and then we can get these players without having to pay a bit OTT. Also with the new CL income, it would help cover all the costs. Just gotta get back in it!!!
Ben Smith from BBC says that we're not interested in Sneijder and there is almost no chance of him coming here. As mentioned previously, LFC have been scouting quite extensively. Eriksen and Strootman are big targets. I would be more than made up if we went him for them both.
Strootman would be a replacement for Gerrard IMO. A top class box to box midfielder. We already got rid of Sahin and Joe Cole ...
Lots of youth then: Spearing, Lucas, Allen,Gerrard,Shelvey,Suso,Strootman,Eriksen,Henderson. Someone else sure has to go ( could say Spearing but leaves us really light at DM).
I can see Spearing leaving. Unfortunately, I can also see Henderson leaving as well. Gerrard is nearing the end of his career - whilst he won't be leaving, I don't think he'll be playing as many matches.
Think we will have an overload of AM some CM and really light at DM. Moussa Sissoko, 3.5 mil, seriously why are we not pouncing on that?
We have a lot of midfielders - unfortunately, I think it's a case of more quantity than quality. Strootman, Eriksen and Sissoko - wow
But surely that is all other clubs bar Man Utd and Man City can offer too? Arsenal and Tottenham are by no means certain of a CL place and Chelsea finished sixth last season. They just have a better recent record so are therefore seen as a lower risk I guess with him being 28 he wouldn't want to be part of a longer term project though.

will never happen, that is a Fifa pwerhouse midfield though! With regards to sneijder, if we have the funds to do it then we should do it. If FSG have the cash to do it and it wouldn't affect anything down the line then we should look into it.
True but they are teams that are still in a better position than us, and better placed to finish in the top 4. I understad your argument with teams like Spurs perhaps, because they don't have CL football but they did finish 4th last season which indicates their strength and then you only have to look at their current standings to see that they are in a good place.
Completely unrelated but I didn't want to start a new thread - the u21's are playing. The full backs: Brad Smith and Ryan McLaughlin - these two are a real handful! Extremely quick and talented. I think we're sorted for fullbacks! Also, they seem like a more natural fit for the full back positions than Kelly, Wisdom and Flannagan. Teixira is a special player
Forgot about him. We talk about No. 10 and here is where Sneijder can be good. We have what Shelvey,Suso,Gerrard,Teixeira, and then we would have Sneijder if we got him. Two of those would phase out around the time the others get to about 22-23. Good time I think.
