"Several seasons ago a Doncastor team of average to modest abilty gave a display that was eye opening. Kilkenny could have easily been incorporated into the manner that team played"

They also got miserably relegated. Several months ago a Bristol City team gave an "eye opening" display against Cardiff and also Crystal palace. that didn't prove anything then either..

There are many players who could be incorporated in to good football teams, many of which have far better attributes than Neil Kilkenny. (Bobby Reid for one)

The key thing Banksy is that we have operated without an intelligent midfield for nigh on 7 years now and it is clear from the continuing pedestrian sideways, backwards, sideways, "what do we do now"..? performances, that our strikers have been deprived of through balls and also a stream of crosses from the wing that they can attack.

The proof is to look at any striker that was good before they came here and good again after (Wood being the latest example), AG has been the strikers graveyard for many years now.

This is what I was hoping that DM would correct as many of you will "recall that I have been banging on about "joined up football" since the days of the Johnson era but sadly, he didn't get there....

I did not find the performances v Cardiff or Palace eye opening. High tempo and pressing is quite normal, the latter should be a basic skill attainable by all, unless tactics dictate otherwise.

You missed the point. Donny's budget then was 25% of Bristol City's, it was tiny by championship standards. Doncastor are with all respects a team with support levels normally below the Gas. If theirs was a miserable relegation what was City's demise started by Russell Osman? Two different styles of football, one embracing the ugly and
physical while shedding 40% of its average gate before it slipped a level.

Doncastor Rovers did have a clear football narrative, pass and move. Kilkenny is decent enough at the former.

Points about the academy are relevent. If City are to play the lung bursting pomo styles of football they might as well ditch the acedemy. If Bristol City are wanting to use a quasi Spanish model at the top of the tree the club needs a forward thinker. Bristol City were once looked upon as a passing team. Those old enough will rememebr the disdain Ashton Gate had for direct football, whoosh was not good enough once.

"Joined up football" was what I was hoping McInnes would bring, but instead it was free form make it up as you go. O'Driscoll clearly has a style with emphasis on skills.

I find it hard to credit that we are already trying to pick a team and players BEFORE the new manager has started. Give the man a chance.

I personally hope it will be a clean slate based on different styles and tactics and then everyone (except Fontaine) will be given a chance and new lease of life.

The way this thread has developed has depressed me more than losing a Manager. I for one hope we can get the most out of some of our high-earners, one of whom is Kilkenny.

Which begs the question ROD, who exactly would replace them, and who would replace those also.
Finding skillful players without cash who have fire in their bellies is like finding water in the desert

It was a relative of a later chairman. I make him right.

Chuffed with this appointment just like i was when johnson joined v underwhelmed by coppell millen and mcinnes. football ideas that you can buy into.

If not get the most out of the get rid of, we have too many players who care sod all about the shirt they wear(unless it is Armarni) and only care about their wage packet and have no passion or commitment towards the club or its fans one of the few who has is Skuse and he is being played out of his 'best' position 'RB IMHO' but we are in so much need of midfielders who can win the ball and defenders who can and will tackle and not be brushed off the ball.

I can clearly tell you Cole will not be signing unless a few issues are sorted at the club,SOD i think will make a massive difference though.

Well said. I hope the new man and the board read some of these comments, especially around Fontaine's lack of ability....

I totally disagree about Taylor Shiny, holds the ball up well, wins more than his fair share in the air and looks more than capable to me and I think that he would be a potent threat in front of goal IF HE EVER GOT TO FACE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. So far, our poor midfield has required that he play pretty much exclusively with his back to goal and with a severe lack of crosses of any note to attack.

Change that and I think we might just have found ourselves another gem...

I agree Prem and Stead although he works hard doesn't inspire me in any way.

When Cole was the "second commentator" on Radio Bristol a few weeks ago, it was clear from some of his very guarded comments that he was unhappy with some of his colleagues and/or the tactics employed by McInnes.
By that I mean he criticised things that were happening or not happening on the pitch but it was the things he left unsaid at the end of comments that I thought at the time were the most telling.
