His hold play and distribution for our goal was very good yesterday...our midfield then had the chance to get past him and into the box to score! Our small strikers can't compete against giant centre halves like the Wendies had....he can...do the hard work (hold the ball up, hassle defenders, etc) and goals will come. I'd play him against Peterborough with Aluko in behind him and Koren back in the midfield (Evans to come on when we're ahead). Other teams will have watched the game last night and will give us the same hard time.
I agree. I didn't see him at Orient, but I think he's looked reasonable when he's come on and deserves a proper chance in the league. I don't think Aluko and Koren in attack is working, we miss having a striker in the box and I think he's a better option than Simpson at the moment.
Have to admit his hold up play was brilliant in the goal, was just frustrating he took the ball off Faye's head from the corner, but suppose he still has confidence in his ability. I think he is probably worth a go, we really are missing someone up there.
What's the point in dropping Koren into midfield? Who are you going to kick out? Someone who's already performing while Koren isn't? Why not just play our best players regardless of reputation? With that in mind I'd honestly drop Aluko for the next game. Koren gets on the end of crosses so there's some value in him paying up there even if he is crap at everything else about being a striker. Proschwitz or Simpson to play alongside him and do the hold-up work. We won 4 games in a row without Aluko and since he's come back we've won 1 out of 4 and his contribution has been nil.
I think Simpson can do a job, people always underestimate hard working strikers.Nicky forster,McLean n now Simpson through sheer persistence and hard work get us in good situations up the park, corners etc, panic defences and indirectly create goals for the team, it might not be as ideal as having a proven goal scorer but it's worked so far
at the moment we're like a cracking p0rn0 but without the spaffshot! the number of times aluko, koren, brady, elmo get into decent attacking positions and have nobody infront of them to pass to. koren and aluko just don't work together, end of. relevant to proschwitz, on the tv coverage yesterday it clearly showed brady (our best player on the day) saying to big nick 'you get in the box and I'll put it on your head'. must be so frustrating for him and elmo knowing that they have beating of most full backs and a decent cross in their locker but there's no one regularly on the end of them. the one time there was, it was down to proschwitz holding the ball up well allowing someone to get in the box. he might not be the target man but he does have the ability to allow our abundance of attacking midfield talent to get into dangerous positions.
I agree but Simpson also isn't just a hard-working ****er, he can beat a man, that's how he won his penalty yesterday and how he set Meyler up against Huddersfield up. He's reasonably quick and he can shoot pretty well. The issue with him not scoring is he never gets in a position to shoot.
I like Simpson and his work rate but his second touch always seems to let the ball get away from him allowing the defenders a chance to get a foot in. The same defenders couldn't get around or through ze big german yesterday cause of his height and ball control.
Chocolate fireguards, tits on a bull, hard working strikers who rarely score . . . . now let me think about that one . . .
Slightly off subject but I just watched highlights of the Wembley game on You Tube and a lot of the team back then were on target with their shots, a lot more then the players we have today, even Brian Hughes and Garcia. Seemed that the Bristol keeper had loads of saves to make. I know the players we have now are really good and the majority of the time they have played well but really seeing that goal go in at Wembley sent shivers up my spine.
A chocolate fireguard that's been part of a fully functional living room that's currently 2nd in the second tier of englands finest living rooms.
This whole maclean and simpson are hard workers thing is getting pretty tedious. Their effort is commendable but the goal ratio is by no means prolific so maybe we need a lazy bugger who sits up top and bangs in elmos crosses. worth a try at least. Give Prozzy a run or sign some one else. Thats what i'm hoping
I reckon we should put out the best team for Orient. Start Prozzy. Go for ****-or-bust....but at least see how the big German plays in a full side and game.
I agree. Then the first team will take a couple of games to get into their stride and drop more points. Then we'll try to save a few quid by brinkmanship play with buying players just before the deadline. Then we'll overpay for second rate players in a panic. Then we will miss out on promotion. Then the club will say that did everything possible to get promotion.
I don't understand how Koren's coming in for some stick, he scored a decent goal. Yes he missed one, but he's not striker. Since he's been played further forward his goal scoring record is pretty good. Proschwitz will get a game tomorrow night and if he produces the goods he should be in contention at least. Simmo looks like all his confidence has gone and this is Nick's big time. Hope he grabs the opportunity.
