http://www.koptalk.co.uk/20130113123/sunderland-confident-of-signing-stewart-downing.html Sunderland are trying to push through a deal to sign Stewart Downing on loan - and they're confident that they can make it happen. The Liverpool winger - who recently confirmed that Brendan Rodgers had told him that he was free to leave the club - has failed to make an impact at Anfield since his big money move from Aston Villa in July 2011. However, since the manager told him he'd been made available, his performances have improved.Talking recently, Downing said: "Since that conversation [with the manager] I've almost played every game, 11 out of 12."Nothing's been said. I don't know what the plan is but right at the moment I'm doing all right and in the team."He stressed I have to play high up the pitch and get into positions when I can create and score. That's my focus every game now, do well and make it hard for him to leave me out."I'm in control of the shirt at the minute, others have to get it."Although Middlesbrough are keen on taking him home it is Sunderland who claim to have the upper hand with a senior executive at the club having told our source that they are confident of taking him on loan until the end of the season.Liverpool already have a thin squad so you would expect the manager to have someone else in the bag first before allowing Downing to leave.Downing starts for Liverpool today against Manchester United. Just rumours but they are gathering pace
Would definitely take him. He's had some great performances for Liverpool (the few of their matches Ive since) since December. Far better player than McLean.
He looks like he's enjoying his football again after getting a run of games. I would prefer to buy as opposed to a loan cos we could be back to square one again if he returns to Pool in the summer.
This DG rumour wont go away. Certainly not my 1st choice of transfer targets but if he is brought in by MON he will get my support. Cannot see him getting ahead of Fletch or Sess tho so will he come here as a bit part player?
My worst nightmare this and I certainly will not be supportive of the black and white twat at all. I don't give a ****e if he does score, he has stated very openly his dislike for our club and I shall show him my dislike for b&w scum in our colours.
I dont really understand our pursuit of him, i rather we engineered a move for bent odds have come down from 25-1 to 4-1 joint favs
Downing and Moussa Sissokho would cap off a perfect transfer window (along with Alfie and Mangane who will sign in next 24hours)
That would equal 4 more quality players (I hope) and most importantly massively strengthening our subs bench.
Just picked up a footy echo on way home from my mams and it suggests we have tabled a £3.5m bid for sissoko and mangane deal should complete 2moro And that n'daiye was £3.8m
Sissokho would be a smashing signing, although whether we now need him, is debatable. Danny Graham would absolutely be a pointless signing, not that he's ****, he'd just offer us nothing new, so what's the point? We could likely get van Wolfswinkel for similar money given Sporting's mess, that would be a much shrewder move.
He's had a minging season mate, whole team has, they could go down. Good time for a cut price snaffle IMO.
