We are defensively useless this season. Jaffa had a topic on this, but he's gone now. I think its a lot more than just being open to attack constantly, we really miss Clarke. Why did we let this guy go??

Clarke is doing a good job at West Brom now anyway, probably deserved to be a manager at some point.

Yeah, he wasn't enjoying it anymore and stuff.

clarke only joined us to get a manager's job... he said so at the start!.

in the end guys i think agger ball wathcing and constantly not getting tight on rvp... downing abandoning his wing and other basics are not requiring the likes of clarke to sort out. we started ok tatcially but just let it go. lets see how we pick it up form here...

I wonder if Clarke's West Brom will be a one season wonder. Although kudos to him. I thought he offered his resignation when Kenny left, they refused to take it and then sacked him!

I don't think the first was down to the defenders despite Neville harping on about Agger. You have to stop those crosses coming in in the first place and the reason Evra had so much space to find Van P was because Drowning was strolling back admiring his ****ing nice shiny boots. That move for the first took a while to build up and Drowning still hadn't bothered his arse to come back and help Wisdom out. Lazy ****.

Something that I've noticed has crept back in recently is niggling free kicks in and around the penalty area! We give away a few a match <yikes>

Same goes with Allen and Skrtel - When a player is running away from goal, TRIP HIM UP <devil>

  13. Don't get me started on Skrtel. Love his sprint across the pitch followed by a slide tackle to win tge ball and man too if required, but he gives away so many freekicks too. Surprised the referees have not picked up on his holding/grabbing in the area yet too, he would be giving three or four penalties a game away if they did <grr>

I think you guys are missing something here. The simple fact is our defenders keep winning the ball and passing it out only to find it's coming straight back at them time and time again. Today especially we just kept inviting pressure on the back line because we couldn't keep hold of the ball in midfield (or relieve pressure by moving it quickly up the park). As a defensive unit you can only ever do so much against top class forwards like United have before they'll get chances. The best way to limit those chances is to keep the ball as far away from your back line as possible.

A couple of nice footballing cliches to follow:

The best form of defence is attack.

    Defend from the front.

At the moment we're asking way too much of the centre halfs, keeper and Lucas because the rest of the ****ers (even Suarez today) are useless.

  15. I realise that Billy but notice I'm not picking on Agger despite his obviously drop in form. I just have a issue with Skrtel really <laugh> He's been a top CB this season though, I can't deny that. Last season too. Its the holding and grabbing that bugs me really <ok>

He just gets too close to his man and is easy to turn.
