Happy to devour some pastry covered contrition?

So with some hints of good news on possible recruitment this morning – I'll still reserve my judgement until they are signed & sealed – I thought I'd raise something.

Bearing in mind that NOTHING concrete has happened yet regarding NUFC bringing in the players we so desperately need, are the cynics ready to eat some humble pie if we're pleasantly surprised?

This would include me by the way.

However I also happen to believe that you should give credit where credit is due. Most of us are reluctant to give the current NUFC regime any praise or offer them thanks at all, and that has largely been vindicated by the season we're 'enjoying' thus far.

But IF they realise the mistakes made in the summer and do their best to rectify them in this transfer window, surely we've got to acknowledge that?

Pardew has hinted that there may be 3 or 4 deals in the offing, which if includes Remy is likely to be north of £15m. If the club pays that out when we expected to get nowt, we've got to be pleased and dare I say grateful?

Do people agree and what would it take transfer-wise for us to concede that they regime has 'done the business' so to speak?

For me even if we get them I'm still right because we should not be in the position we are in. Even if we get them it's no guarantee we wont go down and anynoe that thinks otherwise needs to consider the reality of whats going on on the pitch and off it this season.

I wasn't trying to piss people off with this thread or make anyone admit they were wrong exactly.

I've been just as negative as most about the regime and expected us to sign nobody – but that remains the fault of Ashley and Co. for dashing our expectations and losing our trust.

What I figured though was if the window shut and we'd signed nobody other than Debuchy (which could still happen, mind) we'd all be on here going mental and criticising.
So surely if they do the opposite and show some real ambition and give us a great chance to resurrect our season we should applaud them?

Not for everything but at least that, no?

 

Everyone did I? I said we WILL sell all our best players and we do and trust me whatever happens this season in the summer we will sell another of them. If we are going to stay up our best players will have to shine and guess what then the window opens. I have to admit I'm surprised we are signing Remy and got Debuchy but if we were not looking like going down we wouldn't. The fact remains that Simpson will be gone soon and Ba has gone so all it takes is another injury problem as as a squad we are no better off at all.

The fact you're all think weh hey shows your lack of learning power!!! the window still has two weeks left so lets all see exactly where we are then . so far we swapped to players in my eyes and the green players are still horribly green.

Don't get me wrong here but if we add another striker after Remy, a right back, left back and two CB maybe 2 if colo goes I'll say **** me I was wrong but until then I'll maintain my position.

in fact sometimes in life you have to accept you are wrong and to be honest I didn't think we would get Debuchy or Remy so I'll have apple but can I at least have some custard???

we have sold one of our best players though, looks like Colo and Simmo ( not that he's that good but still one of better player) and there is still 2 weeks to go.

Yeah that's fair. It's all hypothetical so we could well be fuming at them when the window closes, so we'll have to see...

I too didn't think we'd fork out for Debuchy or Remy (although I still fear a last minute hijack from Dortmund). Spending that sort of money has to be acknowledged, but Katmandu has a point - we should have done this in the summer and not waited until we're in such a position that it's absolutely essential to spend big to stay in the league

 

I'm impressed with the lack of immaturity on this thread. No mention of cherry pie or any other pointed reference to womens pie (crusty or otherwise)
