It doesn't really make a difference if we don't win ourselves! Put it this way. If we started finally winning games this season, it doesn't really matter what the others do because they can't all start winning. And even if the practically impossible happened and all the bottom teams started winning every week, then they'd all get out of trouble and another clutch of teams would drop below them and replace them.
I get all that, but our point today is worth much less now that Reading have won and Wigan got a draw. We obviously need to start winning to stay up, but everything helps. Harry will have to set us up differently against most other sides for us to have a chance of winning games.
The problem is, we have players that can defend but are not proficient in attack, and players e.g. Cisse that can attack but not defend. Adel's defending is much improved which is a plus but two or three all rounders coming in would be welcomed
Just over a week ago we were 3 points behind Reading then mid week we were level. Earlier today we moved 1 point in front. For me that is progress. We are moving forward. By 5pm after a freak comeback we are now 2 points behind. They won't be doing every week and by March we will be looking behind at them. Just watch them and you will see. We just need a decent striker (and i don't mean DJ). TF and co need to pay the money and get in a goal scorer even if it's someone like Bent. Once Arry gets the players are in we will be a good team. Can't believe some are down after our last 2 games? Get real guys and keep the faith!
Set up like we were today against lesser teams and I'm sure we'd get a bit more freedom and therefore chances.
Reading have already brought in 3 new players this window- Akpo, Stephen Kelly, daniel caricco. This looked all the world like being a very unpleasant welcome to the club for them- but now they must be settling into Berkshire life quite nicely.
I think Harry got it spot on today, but I would hope for a more aggressive set up against lesser teams
I concur with ELLERS. A good day today. These other teams in the scrap had to play each other at some stage. Now we know where we are. Would have been nice if AV and Saints drew and Reading lost but as it is they have big teams to come and we have got 4 from 6 against two top teams. A good day but clearly we will need to deliver in the goal scoring department too. CPOYRssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!
Before today, playing a full strength Spurs side while the others had comparatively easy games (well, easier then) we'd have expected to drop back. The fact that it's pretty much the same with another difficult one chalked off is a result for us (even if the Reading result was a gut punch). I'm seeing a team spirit forming and a few sparks of confidence appearing - we might finally have that base to try to improve from. We can attack more when playing slower or more realistically beatable opposition and when the chance to have spells of pressure in their half are more likely. Unbeaten in 2013 - COYRs!!!!
They got a guy in called 'Hope' That Caricco was so bad in the first half cost them the goal and got taken off (that's not me from radio). Two bob players that won't keep them up. For me today i was dissapionted by Fulham? Wigan don't normally have a good record there.
1 shot on target is not good enough at home - regardless of the opposition. It is a point closer to safety, yes, but we played too defensively today and into Spurs hands.
Spurs have scored in every away game this season...until today. If they'd gone one up, we'd have been stretched to pull one back and with the talent in that team, we could have lost by quite a few. No complaints re Harry's tactics today, and we'll probably get something similar when Citeh come to town at the end of the month. But a fast striker to hit them on the counter would be nice, I agree
You really think we could beat them? I just don't want to imagine what their counter attack would do to us, we would be going straight to the slaughter house. Play defensively when you need to play defensively
We'll never know El Pirata. Last season at home to Citeh we did very well and were unlucky to lose 3-2. They are having a dodgy run, so hopefully we can exploit their defensive weaknesses.
Eerie parallels between Reading-WBA and our amazing comeback against Liverpool at LR last season;in both games, the home side were 0-2 down until late and then scored three to win; home hoops victorious against the away team in red; but there it ends! We survived, and will again, fake hoops are goin' down!
If reading did that at the back end of the season I'd be worried. Still so many games left and I don't think they have the quality to sustain a run. The equation is simple. We must finish above wigan, villa and reading. It's down to us four. We're 5 points from safety which isn't a disaster but we can't afford any slip ups, and we can't lose to any of those teams.
Except when we beat Liverpool we scored all 3 goals, watching MOTD and the last goal was an OG. Cant understand why that 'Pog' bloke went so mad as he didn't touch it. I also noticed that Olssen cost WBA 2 goals? Think we are lucky they turned us down.
