Yeah, height doesn't affect your ability to dive like this... please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Agreed, actually I'm 5ft 9 1/2 inches too, maybe I should play. Chester gets caught out due to his height, coupled with his ability - currently 2nd choice central defender at a Championship club. Cannavaro didn't, and Puyol doesn't, because they are/were Champions League/International standard. You are right, height need not affect how good a defender you are, but in this scenario it does.
Chester is a decent player, with a lot of potential in a number of positions. I real bargain for a Championship club at... ã300k was is ? Hobbs is a better central defender in my opinion, er... end of.
They're both very good. You seemed to be criticising Chester, who along with Fryatt and Rosenior is probably our best player.
Chester reads the game well enough to compensate for his height, he's definitely better at centre back than anywhere else and though I suspect it won't happen, I'd have him as a first choice centre back next season.
Just pointed out why, in my opinion, I thought Hobbs is better choice in central defence. I wasn't criticising Chester just to be awkward. You're right, both are decent players, players that I'd like in our squad.
Ah well Tyler, I think alot will agree to disagree on this one. I certainly do. Hobbs is probably better at heading and actually defending, but I prefer Chester because, although he doesn't seem to do as much defensively as Hobbs but most of the time he can stop the danger before it's even arrived. For instance, he'll stick to his position instead of chasing after the striker creating a huge defensive gap and also he covers up for his partnering CB when they get dragged out, and finally, he may not be the biggest but he has got a good leap on him (Leeds at home for example) and he seems to have a sneeky way of climbing up the strikers back without committing a foul.
