Like I said there is a right way and a wrong way to act like a "fanboy", I would like to think I was doing it right (now) but most people here would tell you I was worse in 2011 than...... Er? Hmmm... Let me come back to you on that when I achieve it. Take this into consideration: (How much I hated Lewis) 2007: 10/10 (Bad Fanboy) 2008: 11/10 (Really Bad Fanboy) *Probably a low point for myself* 2009: 9/10 (Bad Fanboy) 2010: 8/10 (Pretty bad Fanboy) 2011: 7/10 (Pretty bad Fanboy at start, starts to fade) *Criticism for LH was just becoming laughable IMO* 2012: 3/10 (No different to how I would think about other rivals) 2013: -5/10 (He's a Mercedes driver now) So as you can see even the most fruity kind of people change over time, you just need to find the place you want and adapt around it if you enjoy it. I think what most people want around here is honesty and would rather not bother with the hip shots which in my arrogance I was very good at in the past, had good practice in the Sega vs Nintendo era. Don't feel bad for what you said or did (to a degree of course) because you wouldn't be that person (today) which I find more important now rather than cringe and shake my head thinking how much of a tool I was etc...
He did hate Lewis, I can confirm this, but I think it was less to do with the driver and more to do with the people surrounding him and the media hyping him up as this god-like figure.
(Did hate), but nowhere near as bad within 2007-2011 1/2 period compared with now. Within the last year and a half my attitude has been nothing but genuinely positive towards Lewis, to a degree which says something with how you can see above. I held my hands up and said he proved me wrong with regards to his tyre management right after Spain last season (one of the first in fact and way before Brundle jumped on the band wagon since I don't need to be told I got served humble pie, I have at least the guts to get served and take it), unlike most who hated him and refused to give credit for that performance. I knew he would come back strong after Jenson beat him pretty good in 2011, felt the majority believed Jenson would do it again but I disagreed because I'm far too arrogant to want to be incorrect. During the 2012 season I was claiming Lewis was driver of the season over Alonso and Seb. Hell my mate Iceman would vouch for me that I thought Lewis was driver of the year right after Spa during the 2010 season and thought Seb was acting like a prat right on the station platform which was late I might add... I won £70 on Lewis to win Spa and me and Iceman got drunk and got some Chinese with it because the bookies were rubbish with F1 odds as always. And I'm also getting older and getting really tired with all the driver bitching.
No problem since you asked New generation of F1 fans, felt for me a bunch of pikies walking into ascot, (I'm a bit of an F1 snob). ITV hype. James Allen always linking every turn Lewis did to Senna. Didn't like his Dad very much, to me just seemed like a major tool. I felt most Lewis fans were glory hunters and were well.....very ignorant in how F1 was done as a sport. The "Only been watching F1 since 2007/08, other drivers are boring" crowd. Kimi not getting his time in the limelight after winning 2007, just Lewis, Lewis, Lewis... I was a past Tifosi, so hated McLaren in general. "The stewards are out to get Lewis" cards being used at every penalty given. Enough You tube videos to chuck a stick at. As my mate Iceman says above, my problem wasn't Lewis the individual, just the majority of his fanboys and the overhype by ITV ruining my enjoyment of F1 is what pushed me to it. For me it was F1 one year, and then suddenly I was watching a darts tournament and wondering what the hell was going on? It was like when England won the rugby world cup, one day nobody really watched rugby, then suddenly a few million people jump on the glory wagon saying they love rugby now? You might frown at point 6 that I gave in the list above, but I was camping at Spa next to quite a few McLaren fans, great lot and got drunk with them, but I was indeed correct. 8/10 of them said they only started to watch F1 since the magic 07/08, psychology would call that a valid stereotype. Great taste though, they went to Spa as their first GP so there is some hope that most of them will be long term F1 fans. I don't "hate" Lewis fans as individuals, just how they acted like fans for the past few years before 2011 popped up, after that rough period most of them stopped banging the drum and the real Lewis fans remained who I do respect.
Are we really back to Lewis Hamilton already? Westy??? I'm going to start a thread about Blamange... pretty sure Hamilton will crop up by page 2. Nobody mention '94 for God's sake!
Those who ask, get the answers of my complex personality! Might want to add the green flag of 2012 to that list as well Westy for safe measure
Why.... What happened in 94? < hidesunderrockfortwoyears > Was that the year when driver A threw his sausage at driver B?
despite my opinion of 94. It wouldn't create much of a response from me. The one you really have to avoid is Spa 08! Don't ever get me started on that.
