Apparently his wife is ill and he's having to look after his two kids on his own at the moment.
If this is the case then fair play to the bloke. I'd be feeling homesick in exactly the same situation.

Fabricio Coloccini will remain Newcastle United captain as manager Alan Pardew looks to find a way to help resolve the personal problems that have caused the defender to become unsettled.

Unhappy: Newcastle will do everything they can to rid Argentine Fabricio Coloccini of his homesickness Photo: ACTION IMAGES

Coloccini has made his unhappiness clear in recent weeks and his father revealed last week that his son was keen to go back home to Argentina, with former club San Lorenzo keen to sign him. The centre-back has confirmed he is tempted to return to his homeland, but has not asked for a transfer.
At the heart of the issue has been the poor health of Coloccini’s wife, who has already returned to South America, leaving him with their two children at the family home on Tyneside.
Pardew is hoping the imminent return on Coloccini’s wife will help ease the pressure and allow the defender to remain at Newcastle, at least until the end of the season.
The 30 year-old, who signed from Spain’s Deportivo La Coruna in 2008, will start against Norwich this weekend and will then meet to discuss his future with Pardew and managing director Derek Llambias next week.
Even if Coloccini cannot be dissuaded from seeking a move, Newcastle will point out San Lorenzo do not have the money to sign him and, as he only signed a 4½-year contract in March, the club have shown him loyalty in the past. That should ensure he stays until the end of May and Coloccini has already held productive talks with Pardew.

San Lorenzo may well want to sign a player who was voted into the PFA Team of the Year last season, but they also recognise they do not have the means to make a credible offer to buy him.
That could lead to a loan attempt, although given Coloccini earns £60,000 a week, it is unlikely to appeal to Newcastle, who would almost certainly have to continue paying a large percentage of it and find a replacement.
Newcastle only have three specialist centre-backs in the first team squad and one of them, Steven Taylor, has been missing for six weeks with a hamstring injury. Pardew is hoping to sign another in this transfer window.

Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately this is exactly thee reason I believe the story to be true. Even if Colo lacks the sense of responsibility to put the fans' minds at rest by denying it, I can't believe the club would allow this story to continue, gathering momentum, and having such a destabilizing effect at a time when we are (almost) at our lowest ebb. If it's not true, they only have to say so. But they're NOT saying so.

The "sick wife" story sounds like a feeble excuse. (Well, if she IS sick, she added captions to her facebook pictures two weeks ago so she's not exactly comatose.) And if he wants to go cause Pardew gives him the irrits, or the other boys aren't playing nice, or he's tired of losing games -- well, any of those reasons are just pathetic. He's supposed to be the captain, for God's sake! He's the one who's supposed to stand up and be counted when things are going badly for the team. Staying or going, his lack of leadership has been very disappointing. Poor Jonas has been posting encouraging "I love Newcastle", "Go Newcastle"- type tweets on Twitter, but I guess Captain Colo is busy sobbing into his pillow in some dark corner. Poor lamb.

And I'm not buying his father's crap about "It's always been Fabri's dream to play for San Lorenzo etc etc". He can do that in four years. They're not exactly setting the world on fire and can't afford any decent players. They'd be lucky to get him at 35 and he can make his "dream" come true when he's fulfilled his obligations to us.

I'm feeling a combination of furious and shocked and heartbroken, but mainly heartbroken. :emoticon-0106-cryin

There are so many rumour's going about and none of us know the truth.
I'm not happy Colo want's to leave but if he is going I want it sorted out quickly. We can't afford to have a player who's mind isn't on the team, harsh but true.

When something is generating this much interest and no-one is denying it, I think we can make the obvious assumption.

I thought Jonas' comment on the NUFC site today was interesting:
"Nothing else matters as long as we stick together in the games and try to do the best for our teamates. That's the most important thing."

Pardew spoke to Mick Lowes after the game yesterday and said he wanted to try and keep it as internal as possible, so that basically confirmed there is an issue but not how resolved/unresolved that issue is yet...

Its getting a bit silly and the club just need to put a statement out confirming the actual situation but I dare say they wanted to get Norwich out the way and then have a meeting with Colo. Just the professional thing to do. Had his first good game in ages yesterday funnily enough.

    Morning All,

Heard a rumour regarding the Coloccini situation.

Apparently Colo had been playing away, and as a result his missus has took the children back with her to their homelad.

Not 100% sure how true this is (could be jsut hear - say), but seems like a sound justification. He clearly loves the club, therefore can't see it being for a footballing reason. Money isnt an object with what he would be payed back home, and as he hasnt handed in a transfer request. Sounds like they are trying to work things out...

Just hope that he can get everything sorted and see this season and hopefully his career out at NUFC as we desperately need him!

This sort of thing really pisses me off. How come women have so much power over their children that they can take them to a different country without the father knowing, but if Colo did the same him with his kids and took them away from their mother, he'd be called a child abductor?

The easy way round this is for Pardew to play her alongside Colo instead of Williamson, therefore she'll be able to keep an eye on him and we tighten up in defence.

    Problem solved on both fronts.

    <laugh><laugh><laugh> Report her Tash.

I think this is all one big misunderstanding. I think she has just misheard the "shag my wife" chants and thinks he has actually been shagging peoples wives and its a form of abuse. The stupid big hairy so and so is clearly lacking in relationship skills or very tight. Everyone knows a box of Ferrero Rocher makes everything alright.

" "Everyone knows a box of Ferrero Rocher makes everything alright "

It worked for David Beckham because he also comes in a posh box.
