There's a thread on the Liverpool board about where supporters come from. Someone with too much time on their hands has conducted research using the location of Twitter users and the clubs they tweet about. One of the Liverpool fans has come up with an epic reason for why Manchester United might be referred to by a lot of Manchester based Twitter users.

"My initial guess would be that this type of analysis will be heavily skewed by students (likely to be twitter users and likely to move for university). For example, if Man Utd appears popular in Manchester, how much of that could be due to "glory hunters" attending Manchester University?"

And here was me thinking that everyone who lived in Manchester was instantly a City fan.

there's an article over on the bbc football site about "who is the biggest team in the premiership" it spouts all the usual bobbins and all that, but apparently twitter is not used as measurement of united's popularity due to the lack of threads on the subject of "united"

like any sane person actually gave a monkey's eh?

That one was funny, particularly given that the Twitter data showed Liverpool was the most tweeted about team in the UK. So if the data is heavily skewed by glory hunting students, that proves Liverpool has the most glory hunting student supporters <laugh>

A large proportion of students at Manchester University are there because they support United? Seriously? Jesus wept <doh>

I went to Anfield about 15 years ago and have never seen so many coaches outside a ground - and the half time raflle draw or whatever had winners from Glasgow, Dublin, Taunton and Milton Keynes. I have no doubt that manchester united attracts a number of regulars from other parts of the coutnry but Liverpool are exactly the same. In terms of replica shirt sales i'd actually be surprised if Liveropool wasnlt second behind United to be honest.

Everyone loves a good moan every now and then <ok>

Surely even you will have to admit you have overdone it this time round. Just look at the amount of threads you have had just to do with the moderation of your board.

Its some mod post on an internet forum, not a bloody vacancy for the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

I think you'll find those are peaceful satellites, and most definitely not weapons.

And you can refer to me as Dear Leader from now on <ok>
