I don't think anyone's saying he's **** (he's a class act...hence why I put him straight in my FF team only to drop him before the Norwich game ). I honestly don't know the ins and outs of it but there is a possibility BR knew he'd never get the best out of him. You know I won't hold back on Rodgers if I think he's ****ed up but on this one I think he was trying to do the right thing and it just hasn't worked. These things happen What will make it worse is that he will go back to Dortmund and be class again. Will that be because we weren't using him right or just because he's now where he wanted to be all along? Maybe a bit of both.
My concern is a more general one than Sahin going and is probably covered by another thread but it's more with Brendans style of management. So Sahin upset Brendan by complaining he was being played out of position and he is, from what I can see, frozen out. I may be wrong there because I believe he had a broken nose but just some thoughts anyhow. We played well against QPR and the side at times looked uninhibited and playing a little more freely. Brendan was not at the match and was on his way home with a cold at the time and the team seemed to almost enjoy being able to do their stuff without looking over their collective shoulders. I know being Liverpool was a bit contrived but the berating of Raheem on camera (probably justified) and the endless courting of Shelvey who I don't think has been that great just struck me as someone trying to impose an image and himself. I am not sure of what the other team members feel or whether his style is at odds with some types of character but something just doesn't seem right. Collectively I think we are a much more talented team than the results would suggest. I know this sounds like a contradiction but I am right behind what Brendan is trying to achieve just wondering if hes missed a trick in the process of doing it.
I actually agree with most of that and I was chatting to a City fan today who was saying something along those very lines (as in a lot of the TV stuff he seemed to be almost playing up to the cameras). The fact is that for a manager of a top class club he's very young. I'm not sure if he even knows what his own "style" is when it comes to man-management and that may well prove a problem in the future. I guess the flip side of that is that maybe he is actually very good at it and he knows exactly what each player needs (arm around the shoulder or kick up the arse). The Sahin saga would probably suggest the former but then you could take Suarez as an example and say he's got him playing better than ever. Is that down to BR at all? I have no idea but I guess it will take time to see how the squad either improves or falls apart in terms of team spirit.
Team is thin, we need more players..... 17:00 GMT: Ibtimes.co.uk are reporting that Ajax will look to bring Assaidi back to the Eredivisie from Liverpool. The 24-year-old made his name at Heerenveen before switching to Anfield.
So Sahin has gone. None of us know the true ins and outs of this saga but he either didn't fit or he didn't want to fit. After all he didn't come here because he wanted to play for us. His leaving may have had more to do with the news that he was getting from Spain regarding his future. But we've got another slot that we can fill and a bit more money in the kitty to offer a replacement. Happy Days! Personally, I'd rather have a player who WANTS to prove their value in my side.
Better to end the loan deal now then having a sulker of a player in the squad till the end of the season + with Cole gone that is about 80.000£ a week that we can use on bringing someone in 19 days to go Come on BR get 1 or 2 more players
Yip: didn't work: the noises from the other players including Raheem who went & signed a new deal (along with quite a few others) is positive about the manager. I think its starting to prove that his actions speak louder than the bollox he talks. The players he said were on the way out because of lack of effort have played very well since. If it plays them back into squad or makes sure they get sold? result either way. Those that can't be arsed are being removed. Why Still Downing? Pragmatism: in a year where we have fat chance of getting 4th we could have benched Downing on fat wages, confirmed a lot of opinions that he wasn't good enough and sold him for a huge loss while playing a guy (Sahin) that pretty much stated he didn't want to be here and didn't like where he was played! Result? Sahin good or bad play by S at end of year leaves us, and we're still left with a Downing we can't sell because now "useless" is cemented with hasn't players in a year. This way if he puts in some decent performances by summer we can sell him. Maybe even for a smaller loss than we all dreaded. As for that TV show? BR, a young and inexperienced manager was expected to come in with confidence in a position only just his & do a cheesy show??? C'mon; very clear from the bits I saw he over compensated trying to show willingness to the new bosses. I blame them (they were trying to raise our profile all credit but unfair on a new manager). And as for our buying crap, long view?. The average age of our team this year has been between 24-25. Some "others" have been fielding average age teams between 28-29 and I can't wait to see where they'll find the cash or luck to replace all those players that are so vital for then over the next 4 years. Some will go to bigger & better. Some will get injured. Everyone dropping will be a massive blow. We may be below them but I bet in two years we won't be. But then I was looking at a 3 year plan anyway.
The signing made sense at a time where Henderson was deemed surplus to requirements, but it didn't really work out for us as he's too lightweight to play his preferred role in the PL, and not suited to playing further up the field. Happily Henderson has improved to the point where Sahin is now surplus to reuirements.
frank, so Rodgers talks bollox to the media - so what. It's more important the he manages the squad and the team. So I hope that he talks bollox to the press with the same level of conviction as Ferguson, Wenger, 'Arry, etc.
Lol: that's what I'm trying to & have been saying all along Dave. I don't care what ****e he talks to the cameras, the journo's etc. actions speak louder than words: he might talk bollox but he doesn't appear to be taking bollox from the players & they seem to trust his plan (hence them all signing up to contracts) His point for all the talk seems to he simple to the players: step up or **** off. I like it.
And isn't that exactly what we should be expecting from a Liverpool manager That's been my point all along about Sahin. It doesn't matter how good a player is talent wise if they just don't want to be at a club. Sahin never looked like a player who wanted to play for us. Not once did I watch him and think "now there's a lad who'll sweat blood for us". So why should he get a shirt that a kid like Henderson can fill? Now there's a lad who looks desperate to impress and stay at LFC. Those who are so gutted about Sahin leaving should maybe ask a simple question. Who would I rather BR had success with in terms of motivating them? Suarez or Sahin? If you criticise him for not getting the best out of Sahin they you should balance that out with a bit of praise and thanks for how well Suarez is playing for him.
hang on guys... really... avoid specualting and look at the evidence in front of us that we did see. 1. the guy was clealry unfit at the start of the year right? 2. he did work to get fit and played one or two games where he looked like he coujld play the 90mins. 3. he instantly looked lightweight and out of his depth in the prem. 4. in the europa he looked good. after these things which i think everyone saw and i hope agree with we simply don't know. If rodgers decided he'd not get into the prem pace and physicality before the loan was up or that sahin would not join us permenantly then fine for em. i do not buy we didn't use him right etc... sorry... i saw a decent player with bags of technical ability but you know what... thats not enough i nthe prem... aquilani and others prove it time and again.
I didn't like the signing in the first place to be honest! He wanted a move to Arsenal and ends up with us. Whether its spoilt brat syndrome or not, he was never destined to prove himself with us!
Not bothered about Sahin at all. Not worth getting excited or caring about loan signings. In the best case they play well, leave and make someone else a lot of money.
