right. seeing as you struggle when it comes to football, i shall explain this more clearly for you petal. jackson is NOT a better player than grant holt. let me show you a comparison: finishing - holt>jackson heading - holt>jackson control - holt>jackson long passing - holt>jackson work rate - level par short passing - jackson>holt pace - jackson>holt skill - holt>jackson hold up play - holt>jackson crossing - holt>jackson movement off the ball - jackson>holt awareness/vision - holt>jackson quite clearly, holt is the better player. jackson just links the play more intricately. it really isn't a difficult concept to grasp. i'd have thought you'd prefer him to play seeing as he fits into the 'spanish style' more than someone like 'big lump' holt does.
I was a reasonably harsh critic of Holt during the close season and quite prepared for him to be shown the door. How wrong I was. That guy IS worth millions. His performances this season have I believe far exceeded last seasons. Yes he scored more goals but what he has done this season has been as good as most other strikers in this or any other division.
can't disagree with any of that. holt, for me, is having his best season for norwich. lets hope his hamstring is going to be ok. he's not getting any younger and it'll naturally take longer for these sort of injuries to clear up.
He occupies the opposition more than any other player. His reputation goes before him.On his day achieves enough that he is almost an extra player. No coincidence that his absence has accompanied our loss of form.
I think those who were willing to see Holt leave lost sight of how the team does when he isn't playing. The whole ethos is different. I don't actually think City have lost form over the last four, but I wonder what the results might have been had Holt been playing. His leadership is as important as his play, IMO.
I don't misunderstand the concept that Holt is clearly a better player. It's the juvenile and contradictory assesments of Jackson which I think are full of bias. The thing with concepts pyjamas is that you stick with them, not just chop and change to suit flavour of the week.
where the bloody hell have i changed my tune here? if anything its you changing your tune suddenly. the other day you said british players were poor - now you want us to sign BOTH hooper and graham. make your mind up...
"absolute drivel of the very highest order and i totally agree with wonky on this - jackson maintains possession far better than both morison and holt. what he isn't quite as adept at holt at is controlling the ball. but when he has the ball he keeps it and his interplay with hoolahan (or bennett on saturday) is good. he's an instinctive finisher - we saw that on saturday - if he has no time to think he usually buries the chance but given time he often fluffs it. morison is very similar in that respect. holt is the calmer and better finisher. How can he maintain possession better when Holts control is better, heading is better, skill is better, hold up play better, and better awarenes and vision. They are the exact attributes you need to hold possesion How can Jacksons movement off the ball be better if Holts got the better awareness? Being quick does not constitute better movement, just quicker! Apart from the fact Jacksons short passing isn't as good as Holts (although you seem to think Holt is more skillful????) Just contradicting rubbish Pyjamas. Jackson plays up front on his own for one game and all of a sudden he's this wonderful player who has all the attributes needed toplay such a role when none of the managers previously have entrusted him to do so. He played up front because there was nobody else, not because his skills earned him the chance. And yes I would like Hooper and Graham because its becoming clearer that we are not going foreign and they are alot better than the other rubbish touted. Incidently, surely if Jackson is as good as you think, we really don't Graham or Hooper. Jackson can tick both boxes, all on his own!!!.
I'll agree I have my reservations Jackson can play up front on his own in the premier league but surely it matters more what the other players are doing for him in that system to guage how effective he is up front on his own? If Spurs play Defoe up top on his own they aren't going to try and pump the ball up to him as much, they'll use there attacking players elsewhere and play in a different way. So should we. Jackson will always do his upmost and I think thats important
**** me you don't half talk some absolute pish at times carrabuh! i'm being deadly serious when i ask, why you've never joined the pink'un site because that would be right up your street. i was going to talk you through all this AGAIN but i have to go out so it'll have to wait but nobody, NOBODY AT ALL is suggesting jackson is a wonderful player based on a game at peterborough. you are the only one suggesting we think that because it suits your argument. he works hard, can dribble with the ball, is much stronger than he's given credit for, and is neat and tidy on the ball. nobody is saying he should play up front if holt is fit and raring to go. he's a back up player but that doesn't instantly make him a cast off. IF holt isn't fit, jackson is more than capable of fulfilling the role because he has enough attributes to cope. its not like we're sticking darel russell up front again! ok, he won't play the role in the same way that holt or morison do but he will work the channels, close down defenders and give us the different aspect of pace up front. he is better in a two, but that doesn't suddenly mean he can't play on his own! everything has to be black and white with you - you're either an amazing footballer or you're absolutely hopeless. i can't stand people who think like that. they cannot see the bigger picture, just like you can't here. truth is, jackson is a player who has never let us down when he's been called upon. he deserves more respect than you show him. i hope he starts and scores a couple tomorrow. if he does, i hope you feel as stupid as you should.
Now I find that a far more reasoned response rather than just making up attributes about the player he clearly doesn't have. The issue started because I said if Jackson plays we will give up possession too easily, our players aren't particularly good at keeping the ball at the best of times, thats why Holts plays. Thats why we are poor when Morison plays, he cannot hold the ball because of woeful touch. If we had genuinely good patient passers in the midfield, Jackson probably would maybe able to play on his own because they'd relieve the pressure for him. Has anybody actually thought about why we play the way we do, its because we aren't good enough to play a different way, we need a good holdup target man who can pass. When we have one (Holt) it works, when we don't (Morison), it doesn't. I'm not keen on the fact its a necessity, but its true.
Pyjamas, the trouble is you give the description of a player who is a Premiership star, and in the second breath say he is our back up. That is contradiction. You say he can do these things when he can't. "he is better in a two, but that doesn't suddenly mean he can't play on his own! " . So why does it "suddenly" mean he can!. Its not a sudden thing, as I recall he's never done it before, not with any success against decent opposition. Nobody prior to the recent striker injuries said "we should play Jackson on his own, he has the attributes needed to play in such a role". They are just saying this now, (because it may well be a necessity) is just fantasy. I hope everyone watches the game and just looks at how Jackson maintains possession for us, I'm guessing it will be more to creating space for others than directly being involved. Watch how many times the ball gets to him and the move breaks down. Watch how bad his passing and particularly his touch is when under pressure. Watch how his movement rarely puts him into the correct position. Watch how few touches he has when passed to before losing or having to get rid. Don't be fooled into thinking speed is a substitute for ability, watch how he uses it ONLY when the ball isn't at his feet. But also see how many passes don't reach him. I'm quite happy to stick my neck out even though we are playing a team in disarray and it is probably a rather foolish thing to do. Jackson may well score (in fact it might be likely), but I still think those things will be quite noticeable.
Get yourself signed up to that Pink Un site Pyjamas, I hear "Mr Magoo wears Simeon Jackson Y fronts" hasn't been taken.
